It’s all in maintenance.
I recently picked up a b5 A4 with 144k on the clock and it runs flawlessly (knocks on wood*)
Why? Because it was properly maintained from day one.

I had awdrifter’s old b5. Sold it with 168k on the clock, ran like a dream.
^ word as long as you stay on top of the maintenance schedule, and stay pro-active… the car will theoretically run forever.
hated B6’s b/c they were almost ALL silver, none of the remotes worked, and i was always putting fuel pumps in them, sometimes two or three b/c they were DOA in the box.
love wandering around behind the dealer with a work order and a key.
02 A4 SILVER (no shit) no start, died while driving (awesome!) remote inop ( ) btw, there’s at least 12 silver B6 A4’s in a row. checking vin #'s and shoving the key in door after door.
hoping not to jinx myself but i daily a B5 passat. bought it with 136k, now at 170k. in the 2.5 years i have owned it i can say that other than the ROUTINE timing belt maintenance and worn out control arms and 1 valve cover gasket and 1 oil cooler gasket. other than that i have NOT had A SINGLE ISSUE. im still on stock turbo with a GIAC chip for the last 15k miles, i drive my car hard. i just do regular oil changes, cool and spool, and take care of it like any other car. like all cars some are good, others have problems. if you take care of them they will last.
I loved all my audi’s and imo audi>bmw Especially by interior quality
I have owned my 02 A4 1.8TQM for over 2 years, put 20,000 miles on it, and have had no major issues with it. Replaced a valve cover gasket, the ebrake line, a caliper, and a wheel bearing. Currently have 65,000 and both I and the previous owner have kept up with the scheduled maintenance so I am sure that helps.
These cars are now 5-8 years old, mileage is probably up there on most of them, and the B8’s are now out. Without looking at the prices of similar year BMW, Benzes, Jags etc I wouldnt be surprised if they are all really cheap either. Its no secret these cars all can be expensive to maintian, making them less desirable to a lot of people. If you take care of them though, they are great cars to own.
I’ve bought and sold 5 b6 a4’s and I love them. No problems with any of them. I’ve also bought and sold 5 b5 s4’s, those are a different story lol
Same old same old.
95% of the people that hate Audis (or whatever other brand you’d like to use) have never owned one and swear up and down that they are crapola.
B6 A4s are cheap(er) now because they are quite old, and getting up there in their age. There also were a ton of them made. The same reason you can pick up a low mileage 996 cheaper than a 993.
completely different story…
not really, 996s are dirt cheap because of the pure quantity of 996s that were built.
yes they are def cheaper due to the mass production but to compare them to a 993 is kind of skewed.
993’s are more of a porsche collector car as its the last gen of aircooled engines and coupled with the classic yet modern styling they tend hold thier value extremely well.
996’s are disliked by porsche guys due to the non-traditional styling. this played a huge factor when the 997’s came out because they went back to the classic looking porsche front end and it seemed like everyone who owned a 996 pretty much jumped ship to go 997. not to mention the updates to the engine problems they were having in the 996 chassis…
agreed.
my original point was that the newer generation was produced en mass, diluting the market driving values down.
engine problems with 996? the RMS issue?
RMS and IMS issues. Plus the coil packs like to explode. It’s over publicized for the amount of times any of them actually happen.

correct. typically usually with the carerra and carerra 4 models.
the turbos seem to be pretty bulletproof :naughty:
Turbos and GT3’s are based on the old GT1 blocks, which are actually old 956/962 tech. They’ve been proven a few times over
<3
you find one yet? was talking to my buddy about it the other day, he is looking at a 993C4 iirc.
