The GT’s are built mostly by hand… more so then todays Porsche.
Upon final inspection there are cars that may have issues off the line… wether its paint, fit, ect. These are put aside and repaired. This was probably one of those and the guy that did it was a jerkoff.
Any way you slice it Ford built a great car. I am the last to stick up for that company but this car deserves credit.
meh, I can see them doing that with a ford escort. But a car that retails so high??? Why would they even consider building there flagship car outa the axtra defective parts they have laying around.
Why do people make the simplistic assumption that every GT is built this way?
Every line of every car built today has defects. EVERY one. Quality control and inspectors are there to weed out the problems or repair them. Here, either the weld was missed or passed… My guess is it was passed. Even tho its not pretty it was deemed structurally sound. 1 ugly weld out of 50 cars isnt going to be a catastrophe.
The GT is a decent amount of car for the money. Most exotics dont run a full dry sump system. There is also a 1350hp TT street driven GT running around. Try and do that with any exotic.
Do you have the original source…news article, forum thread, or wherever this came from? As much as i hate Ford and would love to sit here and talk about how much they suck, I have a hard time believing that they would do shit like this. Sounds fishy. I guess it is possible that this could happen, but damn.
Yea I dont have a problem with the weld. So what its ugly. Many manufacture dont clean up or smooth out welds that are not in view. They do that simply to keep the cost of the car down so you dont bitch about it. But the washers…I LMAO at ford when I see shit like that. like SI01 said… theres no excuse for that. This crap is exactly why I dont resecpt American car manufactures. Which is sad because they are a big part of our economy.
And the tape is there probably to protect the technician who was working on it from the sharp edges. And he probably put the tape there himself, not by Ford. Man I hate sticking up for Ford
rarely do washers have sharp edges. My guess would be to keep the washers stacked and concentric while trying to fit the body…otherwise it would just be a pile of washers.
I would still drive one over a vette given the choice between the 2. Show me 4 other GTs with the same problems and i will start to consider doubting the craftsmanship that goes into that car.
Yeah, I’m sure that was drawn right into the schematics at Ford for the GT. Assembly part required, 5 washers PN#356474, one piece of tape, 3", color brown PN#473849.
When replacing your Ford GT Circular Body Spacers, don’t bother going to the dealership. PN#356474 costs $21.99 each. Some simple Grade 8 washers from your local hardware store will do the trick.

the guys on offtopic had a picture in the thread (its now gone) that showed another weld that sucked bad on the rear, it also showed 2 washers under a panel that had electrical tape, and a couple of interior screws into thin air (didnt match up with the underpinnings)
