Every time I turn on The Edge in my car they’re playing horrible music. It all sounds the same and it’s garbage.
R.I.P. Rock & Roll
Date of Death - whatever day Nickelback released their first album.

Agreed. I haven’t listened to the radio for any length of time in probably 3-4 years. It seems like all that’s on the radio is whatever cheaply produced garbage they can spew forth from the bowels of a sewer and tout it as the best thing we’ve ever heard. News flash - a new record produced every 18mos. from the same artist = quantity, not quality.
hey, maybe you should stop listening to the radio?
It’s fun watching people get old and not realize it.
10 years ago people 10 years your senior were saying the same thing about the stuff you’re playing off your ipod and thinking is clearly superior to “today’s” music.
Pretty much where I was going to go with this
download slacker radio if you have a droid. i like it better than pandora
The radio is useless, even if there was a station that played something decent the advertisements would still annoy me.
I’d say most everything newer than 2002ish probably isn’t that great, there are a few, but not many. I suppose I could have just had more time to filter through the crap from the 60’s-90’s to pick out the decent stuff though.
+1. It’s available for iOS too. Slacker > *, especially now that I realized I can ban songs I don’t like from my stations.
Yep. Really broadens the genres you’re currently into. I run Pandora, Slacker and Spotify on my phone. Great for road trips using the car dock.
its all about money. as much as nickelback fucking blows, people love them for some reason. the sell tons of albums. they sell out tons of their shitty shows. the record labels see this and say “shit, we need to find other bands that sound like nickelback!!” next thing you know the radio is flooded with bands that sound like nickelback bc thats all the $$$$$ loving big record labels sign bc they’ll make more $$$$!!! business > art motherfucker!!!
same thing happened in the 80’s with van halen clones, the early 90’s with nirvana clones, mid to late 90’s with blink 182 clones, clones of boybands and bubblegum pop stars in the early 2000’s ect ect ect ect
$$$$ - What sells is what makes it on the radio. Bottom line, the more mass-appeal something has, the more it can sell, therefore the more the labels can make off it.
There are still good rock bands out there, but most are local, or indie labels. The big labels won’t pick them up because they’re not the “in style”.
EDIT - Jam was typing almost the same thing as I did. lol
I don’t really have an argument against this guys. Other than the fact that I love classic rock, which is definitely my parents’ music, but still like grunge and late 90’s rock, which my parents don’t really like.
I feel like what he have now though is just off the charts garbage.

Thanks for the tip.
FM radio is terrible. Edge plays Bush and Smashing Pumpkins like they are still relevant.
There is still good music being made, but you have to look for it (other than TooL & Mastadon none of these receives airplay):
I know that it follows the money guys. I guess what I’m really wondering is what the hell is wrong with most people where they actually enjoy the music?
Not only what has already been said but in addition the edge has no diversity between the 20 bands they play over and over. I’vepicked up listening to 102.1 the past 2 weeks because they have a better and more diverse selection of bands.
At least listen to the good Edge, 102.1 out of TO
a very large majority of americans are dumb
Yeah I’ve known about the Canadian Edge for years now. It doesn’t come in on my shitty GM radio though.

Don’t even get me started on that topic. Most Americans are embarrassing to the intelligent minority that actually live here.
I used to listen to it- only when I could change the channel every 2 seconds, and maybe then I’d find one decent song out of 10 stations. Then I got an ipod and radio became fucking painful. 50% ads, 50% music that has either always sucked, or now sucks because it’s played constantly on every station and got stale 10 years ago. I’m thinking about a real phone upgrade simply for the music.

I mostly listened to the Canadian stations, I can actually get them fine in the middle of nowhere, but not in the city. And WTF happened to The Lake? That was the only decent US station.
I exclusively listed to the CDN Edge, it’s about as good as I’ve heard for radio stations around here…
