Everyone listens to different music
Enough people must listen to it to make it considered mainstream and popular enough to get played extensively on the radio.
I think a lot of it isn’t that it’s LIKED, but it’s spoon fed to them. Pop is totally a business… and some people ONLY listen to the radio. When you hear something 8 billion times you start to think it’s OK, I guess.

I left NY in 99, came back 10 years later, and the Edge was still playing the SAME fucking Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, and Alice in Chains albums I hated when I left…

I wish I could get 102.1 out where I live. That is one station I can stomach, as is 97.7 hits FM. Here in the sticks 102.1 is god awful Christian radio, so every time I head B-Lo way I try to tune in to 102.1.

I love Rush, I love Geddy Lee’s voice. Musically they are far superior than most.
There are certain things that are truly great. Rush is one of them. Stop and think of other epic songs, bands etc. Freebird for example, does anyone EVER need to hear Freebird, or for that matter, Stairway or Kashmir again? I cursed Tom Hanks acting retarded, but not full-retard because you never do that, when he brought that song back with such a vengeance. Guys who are stuck so hard in the past who act like Rush is a religion need help. It’s a band… They charge too much money for concerts, same with U2 and Steven Tyler’s pack of PJ wearing fruits. The day I pay $1k for a concert ticket to have my ears hurt for 2 days, b/c they are compensating for piss poor acoustics with violent db levels is a cold one in hell.
I see your point but despite the fact that they are great songs (albeit very overplayed), it doesn’t make the band suck. Rush is a Prog Rock band, meaning most people won’t like them. Try listening to Pre '76 Genesis, Gentle Giant, Van Der Graaf Generator, etc. It isn’t for everyone. Rush just happened to be on the mainstream side of it. Pop in the 2112 album and enjoy.
