Why pass our overdue budget when we can just jack up the taxes on tobacco?

what most of these assholes dont think of is that if 1/2 of the smokers in the state quit right now . land taxes and such would go up 3 x as much as they are right now

I’m surprised they started taxing the reservations too, that is going to piss them off :rofl

So we still don’t have a budget yet? Just more extensions?

NOOOOOOOOOO, not the indian reservations!!! where else am i going to get a $2 pack of schwishshhehrsr sweets?

I love cigars and pipe tobacco, this is fucking dumb.

And Elliot

if we worked on the budget as much as we work on the budget extenders we would have a fucking budget by now.

“Yo dawg I herd you like…” came to mind lol

:wierd…wat

I’m quittin that’s for sure, smokings going to become a sign of wealthyness again. Also I’m thinkin of road tripping to MO where the tax is still only like 30 something cents a pack then bringin em back here and bootleggin them fuckers.

Well its a side effect of this bill that many small businesses are going to go out of business, obviously big tobacco companies will feel it too but they wont be biting the dust from this bill like cigar shops will. NYS is probably the least friendly small business state in the country.

Misinterpreted.
I thought u said tax small businesses, before raising tax on tobacco.
In many cases, they are both the same thing.

Start buying online- Russian/Ukranian Marlboro’s are only ~$20/carton !

Not a smoker, but had friends in college buying cartons and selling packs.
They made a good deal of money selling packs for $5

No good news is going to come out of this budget, and with Paterson not running again the leaders are happy to let him be the bad guy and say, “Well if we didn’t vote for it government would have shut down.” Meanwhile they’re all too happy to include this tax rather than cutting services elsewhere. Smoke and mirrors, my friend.

100% agree with you. This entire shit whole country is just pushing the seperation between rich and poor further and further.

If this tobacco tax was passed next thing will be an even more ridiculous Alcohol tax. NY is quickly working its way to being the shittiest state in the union. All these taxes and bull shit and the roads still suck balls, the cops pull anyone over for any assinine little thing cause “the state is broke”, gas is a good 40 cents more expensive than any surrounding state and really we have nothing to show for it at all.

This is also another opportunity where they could legalize marijuana and tax it, instead of raising it on cigarettes and such. Quit cigarettes, smoke pot, its cheaper.

Yep it’s all about getting elected the next term.

How are the problems of now supposed to be solved when all they care about is their own future?

I dont smoke cigarettes but Im a big cigar smoker, I actually just started my second job as a rep for an up and coming cigar company but with this new tax its going to be very hard to get shops to pickup a new brand since most will be fighting just to survive now. Its the same deal online with cigars as it is cigarettes though, even before the tax that was approved yesterday cigars were very expensive in NY, I can buy online for about 1/3 of the price but I also like to support the little guys so I purchase from local shops very often as well. A cigar I can get online for $3-4 will probably cost $13-16 in a NY shop come August 1, its insane.

July 1st is what I read

July 1 for cigarettes, august 1 for all other tobacco products

Ah ok gotcha

I went to Habana on Central today to pick up a package of General Snus, and I was informed that they were pulled from the shelf due to the product not conforming to the FDA’s standards.

The reason: not enough warning labels on the package and the mini cooler that the product is sold in. :facepalm

Amphetamines>Tobacco

I go there usually at least once a week and have never noticed any dipping tobacco or snus, weird. Then again I usually dont look behind the counter, ever wander into the humidor?

Never.

The snus is in a little refrigerator when you first walk in, on the counter to your right.
