Governor Paterson to address state tonight. Re: budget crisis

http://www.wben.com/news/fullstory.php?newsid=10471

New York Post state editor Fred Dicker is reporting that Paterson is planning to announce cuts to state services, a reduction of the state work force possibly through layoffs, and other economic measures to deal with the plunging state revenues.

Who wants to bet that the “other economic measures” are tax and fee increases?

Could be the last nail in the coffin for me and NY. If they try and raise taxes while the economy is hanging by a thread it’s time to get out while there is still some value in my house.

Probably reparations for his blind homies to spark the economy

other than spending cuts and layoffs, what else is there to cover budget gaps?

I thought patterson could “see” the light, but i guess not. MORE TAXES coming.

wow, so many bad jokes and only 4 posts in.

reforming broken social programs and absurd benefits packages for state employees

^spending cuts.

Tax increases duh. The way NY has balanced it’s budget for the last few decades.

I can’t believe how dysfunctional this state is, it’s fing sad

Come on Hill dog, throw patty a bone. Do for NY what you said you’d do for the country

yeah basically the problem is, they have an immediate budget gap, so they will institute emergency tax increases to cover it because of a crisis situation. Fine. Then, once it’s covered, instead of dropping it back down, they’ll just spend more and keep it in place. If they get it through, its never going away.

^ truth

Hey, I saw this movie already. It was called “The Erie County Budget Crisis”. Remember the plot of the “temporary sales tax increase”?

I wish the private sector worked like NY’s public sector. I could just go to my boss and say, “well, costs have gone up and since I don’t want to make any sacrifices I need a 15% raise this year, and if costs keep going up another X% next year”.

He definatley admitted that the state is in a huge crisis right when he took over so maybe he will slash spending - big time.
We can only hope.

:headbang:
