These intercoolers are selling cheap on ebay, and would like to pick one up if it will fit in my '98 with little trouble (read: similar to a stock SR SMIC).

I’m gonna go ahead and say it fits…maybe with a lil’ cutting of your kouki front end 
It could fit but its going to require some custom fitting. Those intercoolers get heatsoak very quickly though so if you are looking for something that will perform those sidemounts arent your solution.
Why not spend a little extra bank and buy a cheap FMIC (http://www.streetimports.com/products.asp?catid=95 or SS autochrome]) You are going to have to make custom piping for the DSM cooler anyways.
Oh and if decide to go with a 2G IC, check out ca.dsm.org youll find one for cheaper and local.
