Hmm… thanks, I wonder how it will be vs XP, I guess ill ask around some forums to people who have tried it.
This may seem like a stupid question for you Joe. Does UBMicro usually extend these kinds of discounts for software to students of the above schools? Is that something new?
If so i’ll have to tell my father to swing by.
What’s the trick to installing this on a netbook without a cd drive?
As long as the school is on the contract. Go here:
http://www.ubmicro.buffalo.edu/1/index.php
Click on shop in the top right, then put in his school info. It will show what is available and the prices.
Thanks Joe!
Doesn’t look like that good of deals for ECC peeps, but i’ll tell him to check back on W7.
Better than retail.
UB gets cheaper prices because they pay a technology fee that covers the cost. A lot of the other schools were recently added, but it is up to the schools on which level that want to be involved.
I enrolled in 2002 and graduated in 2008. My card is the one with white border but newer style with swipe magnetic on the back. I wonder if I can still get one copy.
I suppose it does not hurt to try…
Joe, is this copy considered a full retail copy (without a box)?
It’s considered an upgrade. That’s how it has always been. But in previous you could do full installs. Not sure how it is for 7.
^Indeed, even with the so called “upgrade” disc, I was able to perform full install with both XP and Vista discs.
I’ve been using 7 since March and like it. I may pick up an extra disk though, I mean, for that price, it’s stupid not to.
I don’t know. I haven’t installed it yet.
It’s possible.
Just checked UBMicro’s site and looks like Windows 7 is now available to the other schools. Looks like it is $40.
Has anyone actually used their old ID card? i still have mine from 2006, and want to know if it works, if so i need a copy bad.
If someone wanted to grab me one, its worth $20.
I just did a clean install of a copy of Ultimate from UBMicro. When you get to the point where it asks for the key, make sure you uncheck the “automatically activate windows” box. Once the install is done you can then manually activate it.
Is it against the “rules” to buy software from UBMicro and sell it on Ebay or something? My laptop is not even capable of running this, and the next laptop I buy will already have it.
Yes, don’t even attempt it. eBay will pull it and lock your account.
When purchasing it, you are agreeing to the licence agreement and UB can even come after you if they deem it a problem. Each software given out has it’s own unique serial number.
I ran the compatibility checker and I need a few drivers and shit updated…will UB Micro do this and install w7 for me I don’t feel like messing with it…and I am a current student
