Anybody paid any attention to the next version of Windows? I haven’t really, but at a glance it looks pretty revolutionary. Sort of a desktop version of Windows Phone or iOS. This BGR writer has a giant hardon for it.
If it’s half as awesome as he’s saying it will be quite… awesome?
I dunno. Windows 8 always seemed to be cool on a tablet but not sure if I could tolerate it on a PC from what I have seen on it. It seems a more always on approach which in most computing environment today, people have computers that run applications and then they turn them off and rely on their phone for smaller things like checking email and messages.
Apple revamped the mobile OS and was talking about bringing it to the desktop but never did. I think if MS did they could set up themselves to fail and really cut themselves from the PC market but I guess I will stay tuned to see where this turns.
Also, MS is known for every other releases so I am waiting for Windows 9
Windows 2000 - Decent modern OS but Windows 98 has its better features as more consumer focuses
Windows ME - Tried to revamp 98 as Windows 2000 for the consumer and failed
Windows XP - Way to come back MS!
Windows Vista - Uh Wut?
Windows 7 - Hell ya! Back on top.
Windows 8 ------------ (Is this my cell phone or PC?)
I remember reading somewhere that you can switch back to the old windows style if you didnt like the new layout so I dont think it will effect things much
A lot of people sure sound older than they are in this thread. “it’s new and scary looking” “I’m going to be lost” “change is bad”.
I’m pulling the developer release right now just to check it out. From what I read there are basically two interfaces built in, the touch screen based on and one built more for keyboard/mouse.
Intuitive is one thing. I love new shit but for me it has to be useful. An iPad is intuitive but for me its not useful as I have a portable laptop and iPhone already.
The OS GUI should stay similar to 7 (IMO), I don’t want a metro interface for everything and I don’t want shit condensed down so it actually makes things harder to find. I like the classic control panel, the Win 7 start menu, etc. From what I’ve seen I don’t really care for the GUI of Windows 8, the speed seems to be the biggest improvement. Oh the lock screen is pretty cool too.
Its cool but I still don’t see a use for it. I mean how many people walk around with their PC locked, monitor on and glance over at it for updates? I have my cell phone for that.
