Windows Media Center 2005

does anyone have a copy? this HP a1610n came with it, but somehow all the files got corrupted such as the wuauclt.exe file and i had to install xp pro sp2.
Id rather have the media center back since this is what this pc came with.

Also i notice that i have this 1394 thing installed but can’t use the RJ45 port to connect to the net with it, thankfully i have a wireless card and can steal internet.

if anyone can help i’d…well i dunno maybe buy you a 12 pack or something.

1394 = firewire, aka not the ethernet port. It sounds like you’re missing your ethernet driver or something.

yes probably i knew it was the firewire thing but it’s also connected to the ethernet port.
now i went to hp’s site and microsoft’s site and am current with all updates, it doesn’t find the audio card or driver or anything. i will post the specs of the pc so you can see what is on here.

Go to Start->Control Panel->Network Connections

Right click on your 1394 thing, click disable. That way you won’t have any problems.
Now do you see one described as something like “10/100 ethernet blah blah blah” under device name? Make sure its status is not “disabled”. If it is, right click and click enable.

If it still doesn’t work, right click and click repair.

If it still doesn’t, it’s beautiful out. Go outside. :stuck_out_tongue:

it has the AMD Athlon 64 Dual Core Processor 4200+ 2.0 GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS

now the ethernet card and the 1394 shit is built into the motherboard and i don’t know how to get just the ethernet to work.

this is the thing, that 10/100 ethernet thing is not there, how do i get it there? the RJ-45 port is built into the motherboard and i have no idea why it wants to recognize the firewire one but not the ethernet thing.
When i plug my lan cable into it lights up just fine, but still have to use my wireless card to connect, which the wireless card DOES NOT have an ethernet slot on it.

If someone has a disc or something that can install that ethernet 10/100 thing so it shows up in my network connections thing that would be great and i will drive out to you to pick it up
or if someone just has the 64 bit version of media center 2005 they can let me borrow that would be great too, as i’d return it upon successful install.

You need to use another computer goto HPs site goto Support…Type in your model number and there should be a place to download drivers…find the ethernet driver download and put it on a USB drive and throw it on that PC.

i can do that from this pc this one has no issues with web browsing
but i cannot find that driver on hp’s site.
HP A1610n

yup in my device manager the only 2 network cards that it shows is just the wireless G card
and the 1394 Net Adapter and i updated the driver with the following link from hp
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-42531-1&lc=en&cc=ie&lang=en&os=228&dlc=en&product=3239117

still nothing :gotme:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=228&lc=en&cc=us&product=3239117&dlc=en

It says LAN drivers

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=pv-42531-1&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3239117&os=228

already beat you to that with my link in above post, as i stated i downloaded that just fine and it installed just find on this computer but the device manager doesn’t seem to have anything in there except the 2 cards i specified in the above post.

there is also no audio playing either, as it seems that must be built into the computers mobo as well because that too won’t work for some reason.

PEBCAK? FUBAR? SNAFU?

yeah im going to go with those, does anyone have a windows XP Pro or any kind of disc i can use to reformat? or reinstall windows, that will actually recognize everything?
my windows disc was the very first release of XP Pro with SP2 on it, it is kind of old. When Media Center was on it i tried installing xp and i got the message that said " the version of windows you are trying to install is older then the version currently running" then it exited, so i booted it from disc and did it that way the deleted the partition and reinstalled this OS.

i dunno if this helps anyone but i found this program that told me this.
