wood gas generator (gasifier) for fueling internal combustion engines

has anyone ever heard of this? a guy at work sent me a 90 page pdf report of this, was originally from oak ridge nat. lab…apparently was used in WW2 and is for use in a “petroleum emergency”

basically the process was explained and had a detailed how to and they tested it on a tractor. they piped the gasifier(wood burner) through a precipitation tank and cooler, filter, then had a blower with it piped directly to the carburator.

im thinking im going to try this on my lawn mower this summer, out of curiousity.

thoughts?

host pdf someplace?

Sounds perfect for the sled

There is a guy around here who drives an old Dodge truck with this set up. I believe it is basically making hydrogen and other gases.

if youve ever seen the show “the colony” they did it in season one. and here it is

It was pretty big in parts of Europe during WW2 as well. /pushesupglasses

beat me to it. they used a rudimentary one to run their genny until they found a better source.

no idea how to host it, i can forward you the pdf if youre interested though. shoot me an email addy.

i stated this in my original post…you better push those glasses up so you can read :stuck_out_tongue:

Considering it immediately preceded by “originally from oak ridge nat. lab” I thought you were referring to use in the US, which is why I said “as well”.

My uncle messed with it for a bit, IIRC but I never got to see what it was all about. If you dive into the project let me know I’d lend a hand, Or watch over your shoulder and make it awkward.

Gasification is fun.

It would be easier to run a deisel on transformer oil than deal with the hastle of a gasifier.

Yea but when you are in the middle of no where surrounded by trees, burning oil seems kind of silly.
