World Trade Center Reconstruction

While working on some :snky::snky: I came across this link for some progress photos of what they are doing at the WTC that are open to the public.

Enjoy.

Weird I didn’t realize they where rebuilding

Guess I don’t follow the news.

They have been building for some time…prepping the site took years

so i’m confused. is this purely a memorial, or also a site of commerce? skyscraper? i dont have the time right now to read it

One skyscraper thats taller than the old towers.

One of buddies is an electrician and working at tower 7 currently.

The new World Trade Center (WTC) will build a brighter, more vibrant future for downtown New York with superior commercial space, a modernized and more convenient transportation system, and cultural and highly commemorative destinations. It will provide a significant economic boost for the area and dramatically enhance the quality of life for the people who live, work, and visit downtown.

The WTC plan includes

* Five new skyscrapers (1 WTC, Freedom Tower; Towers 2, 3, 4, and 5)
* National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center
* World Trade Center Transportation Hub
* Retail Complex
* Performing Arts Center

I have some pics of the area that I took while I was in NYC this past July. Kinda shocking how little appears to be done after all this time.

I’ll post pics later if I remember.

Didn’t they have to do a TON of prep-work to the site, including a new subway station underneath where the buildings are to be built?

i would almost think people would be too afraid to work in it for fear that it might get hit again. but you know what i say?.. i say “fuck you jobu”

That would be why 9 years later they are barely past ground level.

i heard it was all kinds of beaurocratic bullshit and argueing back and forth that caused it to take so long to start.

The new Path Hall (subway system) that there bringing back down there is insane. I have the plans for it at my office and they are roughly 4" thick and the spec book is another beast. I am not really looking forward to looking threw it for what I need to get out of it.

Its good to see some great progress on this and it looks like the final product will be amazing.

I am glad they went with classy looking buildings and didn’t try to out-do dubai.

off-topic: at what height does it become more economical to build outward instead of upward? (assuming there are no space restrictions)

They’re putting a subway under it?

I’m glad they really took into account security :bloated:

It didn’t just start. They’ve been working on the site for years.

There was a lot of going around on what to do, but its also been under construction for quite some time.

You answered your own question. The reason to build upward is density.

You don’t see high rises out in the middle of the country for a reason.

There has to be some point at which its cheap to build upward because you don’t have to add as much foundation.

people have to get to work man. There are subway systems and utilities running under almost all of Manhattan. Beneath most of the roads is NOT solid ground.

Right so build a place large crowds of people are forced together under ground with limited exits at one of the biggest terrorist targets in the world.
