So after two weeks of waiting for the car to be delivered that I wanted to buy, I drive up to the dealer and see a nice cherry red exterior and get all excited.
I get closer and realize that the black interior wasn’t black, but tan. And the dash wasn’t black but brown! At that point I’m thinking “Seriously? How do you mess this up??”
Then, even closer… “where is the premium package that I asked for?”
Even worse, the red with black and premium package I saw online when i initially went in to buy had 4,000 more miles for the same price. They said “we can get you the same car for the same price, but with 4,000 less miles…” so, of course, I said “sounds great! Can’t go wrong with that…” (laughable now knowing I said that)
After realizing that the car they had in front of me was completely unacceptable, they called to get the one I originally came in for, the red/black/premium one. “When? Yesterday?” is what I heard as he called. You guessed it… SOLD yesterday. The last red with black i can find.
I am pretty upset right now. Even worse, I can’t do a damned thing about it but type this up to make myself feel better.
Guess I’ll have to keep searching for my G37X to replace my Mazdaspeed6.
Anyone know of a way to find the car I want from several places at once? My request is pretty simple…
2009 Infiniti G37X Sedan with a minimum of the Premium package. Can have navi, tech and/or sport package as long as Premium is in there somewhere.
Black (Graphite) interior (NO tan or gray. Black seats/Black dash.)
Any color, as long as it is Red, Grey, Silver or Dark Blue.
Any mileage <35,000
Would the Infiniti dealer work hard to find me the used car? Northtown car sales? Fuccillo? Any ideas on who to go to for the search?
I have a trade in, so private party won’t be an option. I don’t want the hassle of selling my car first/after. I want to trade it in… just to make it easier and less stressful.
I’m only looking for 2009’s since a 2010 is still out of my price range.
I saw one on there. I’ll call them tomorrow, but it’s 400 miles away in another state. I’d feel as though they can screw me on the trade in if they know I drove 400 miles. It’d be a “you’re going to drive 400 miles and NOT leave with the new car? Take the deal we give you, haha”
It was Enterprise Car Sales over at North French and Transit. Since Infiniti has a 4yr/60k mile warranty and a 2009 is only 1.8 years old, that would still leave plenty of mileage and time on the warranty.
Now I am looking at normal dealers since Enterprise failed me. Just absolute horrible that we’d go through two weeks of waiting before they realize only when the car arrives that it’s not the car I asked them to get…
Quit being a baby about the distance. If you really want a specific used car with specific package, you’ll likely need to travel. Rent a car or fly out then work the deal before they even see your Mazda. No one can force you to sign the day of.
And why are you not using Autotrader to begin with?
I did search through autotrader to see what prices/options were out there. With the distance, I thought it was a deal breaker.
I didn’t even think of doing the deal beforehand, since they’d likely play the “we need to see the car first” card. I still have the bill of sale from the Enterprise transaction, showing what they were going to offer for my car. Perhaps I can use that as leverage…
I don’t have to worry about haggling over what APR I will get, since I get the rate through my government FCU. If they can’t match that, I will just use my own to keep that number nice and low.
The only two numbers I need to deal with are my trade in and the car price. Sounds easy… maybe I’ll give that place a call and see what they have to say.
When I was contacting out-of-town dealers about trading in my Z for a mazdaspeed3, they all told me I would need to bring the car to them before they would even give me a ballpark on what it’s worth to them. Of course ymmv, a lot of people seem to do it somehow.
They can give you a trade in price without seeing your car or at least a number to work with. They’ll definitely look it over when you get it there so don’t lie to them and say it’s mint if you really know it’s a POS.
You can’t use your old bill of sale for leverage unless you’re buying new. Used cars all need different things before they go to sale; one might need 4 tires, the other might need paintless dent removal. Each adds different costs to the vehicle and ultimately different advertised prices.
at my dealership we give a “sight unseen” quote, usually KBB fair condition, if the vehicle is worth more when you trade it in then you get more, if its worth less than you pay more
i can try to talk to my used car manager to see if I could locate a vehicle like that for you, but im all the way in Hamburg pa
it was a 2004 350z… yeah, that’s true. but if i had the time to go out there, I would have just brought the damn car with me and worked a deal.
I just wish they would take you more seriously over the phone. I’m not gonna waste a whole day driving 2 hours out, sitting at a dealer for an hour, and driving 2 hours back just for the dealer to tell me that my car is worth 5k less than I expected it to be. I’m way too busy for that shit.
That’s why I searched locally for what’s available and see if they can bring the car to me. That’s what I expect will happen, even if I already go out to see a car by flying out, like it, agree on pricing, go home and then drive back the trade in.
I’ll get the “Oh, umm… well… that price we quoted on the phone and when we saw you last, that was before we saw the car. Even though it’s in great condition now that you drove 450 miles here… we can’t give you what we quoted you. But while you’re here, the car is ready for you to take it home. We just have to re-do the numbers.”
Sales guys are sneaky. They want to get as much out of you as possible, because that goes right into their pocket. The less they give for the trade-in, the more they sell the car far and the higher the APR they can finance through their own company, the more kickback cash they’ll receive.
It’s in their best interest to bend you over their desk…
I would have told them to cram the 4,000 less mileage car up their ass. What does that buy you? An oil change. That’s a sales gimmick. They never want to “make a better deal” for you. They tried to sell you a less desirable car. Period.
Stick with what you want. Either buy the one you see (Online or whatever) or pass. Now you’re fucked.
