How is leasing not worrying about depreciation? All of your payments ARE depreciation.
I bought new once and never will again…
Because my payment is a fixed amount every month and I will never have negative equity or be upside down, no matter how much it depreciates. I will never have positive equity either, but I pay $330 a month for a new domestic that stickered for 42k and I put $0 down…I wouldn’t expect any.
Only reason i would buy new is because of a warranty. it depends really on the car though.
I’d buy a new hyandai genesis for 21k, and whatever incentives they are offering, and have a realible, hassel free car for the next 10 years of my life.
I wouldnt buy a lexus or bmw new, but i would probably get a CPO one, just because they usually have low miles/warranty. And it’s not like someone beat the shit out of it, but who cares if they did? It’s a warranteed car.
I think it’s cool to have a 1 owner car (you being the only owner). You know what the car has into it, and you know how you drive it. There’s no worrying about the previous owner
I honestly never worry about my used cars. If the motor goes so what? Buy a new one. It will still be cheaper then buying new.
New zo6 ~75+ Used zo6 ~45? New blown 427 + new 6 speed~15-20K installed.
I probly wouldnt unless i have won the lottery and wanted the vehicle special ordered. but say there is a 09 vehicle for 30,000 and a '08 same model but 30,000 miles, i would see myself taking the '08 if it was in great shape and a good deal.
18 mos from 9/09.
Just got off the phone with the dealer about buying a base 09 silverado 4x4 V8 for a beater and my cost was over $25k:bloated:. so on top of the discount it would’ve cost me $10k + the voucher. Hurry up and make that Z28 GM!!!
I bought the mini new, it was a great car awesome resale, glad i bought it new, bought the Evo used with 10k on it, the resale sucked glad i bought it used. I think it depends on the car/resale. But i dont see myself buying new any time soon.
every financial discussion that i see you involved in, you spew foolish advice that wastes money and keeps a person bound by debt.
i will NEVER buy a new car. cars depreciate, on average, 70% in the first 4 years. thats lunacy. find someone that is pathetically anal and buy their car after 4 years. let them take the hit. i have a friend that always buys new cars. when he sells them, they look showroom new cause he is so anal about keeping it clean and maintained.
i also wouldnt call my 02 forester a piece of shit and i paid 1500$ for it. its loaded and clean with no issues. i always find amazing deals. dont expect this for yourself
Brian
I consider it often but can’t find something I see myself in for more than a year…
In the event I could find a car I fucking loved and could see me owning more than a year or two.
I’d bite the bullet.
I’d consider leasing too
I’ll more than likely be doing one of the two this spring.
I like this thing.
and still have a soft spot for genesis coupes.
and wrxs
i bought a new car for my wife… not sure that i would do it again though… when i look at the numbers it just doesnt make any financial sense. However it does make sense from a lack of headaches perspective.
for myself i will stick with used cars…
:bloated: I’d love to compare finances. You obviously like old mediocre cars and you get what you pay for. Good for you. Some of us pay for quality.
Having bought my STi brand new off the lot, I doubt i’d do it again. 6 months or a year after a car is released, you can always find low mileage, meticulously cared for examples, and get a car that for all intents and purposes is brand new, for thousands off the sticker.
I haven’t had a car payment in years, and I don’t plan on having one anytime soon. Would I buy new? Yes, if I had the cash. For now though, my pos 92 accord gets me around just fine
Lol. Since when is gm quality? You drive a house car. Huge SUVs are so goddamn unnecessary
Wait- someone is giving financial advice and advocating leasing? :bloated:
This is easy, I do it everyday… literally.
If you plan on keeping any vehicle 2-3 years or so buy a used one. You won’t spend as much, you’ll be near the plateau of the depreciation curve so the risk of quick depreciation is minimized even though repair risk is higher.
If you keep vehicles for 4 years or longer then it’s ok to buy a new one. You’ll have it close to paid off buy then if not completely, you’ll be under new car warranty almos the entire time and the cost of ownership (outside the actual cost of the vehicle itself) will be at its lowest point.
It makes great sense for the right person. ie going to drive new cars every 1-2 years no matter what.
You people can’t use absolutes when comparing what is fiscally best. You can only look at what is best for said person.
Most of what people desire in life is unnecessary. Plenty of people think newer gm’s are quality. Your OPINION has little to do with the issue at hand. For example I would drive a TBSS all day and NEVER consider ANY honda.
:word:
GM is quality since my truck has never been in for service for ANYTHING in the two years I’ve had it. This includes whacking it with a 100 or 150 shot when I feel the need ever since it hit 3000 miles.
Wait, I lied. Just remembered, I had them replace a fog light bulb under warranty. Saved me $3.
