Haha then there is my TBSS which has been in for service 25+ times already. I love owning new cars though. Gas, oil changes and other basic wear items is all you’ll ever pay for. You have to love the extended bumper to bumper warranties too. I’d love to always have a new car, but I think I’m going to buy a used one after the TBSS.
Damn. I guess mine was made on a Wednesday morning and yours was made Friday night at 10:45 or something
Sometimes new makes more sense than used. For instance: If safety is important to you then a brand new car is way better than even a 2 year old car.
Not all cars depreciate 70% in 4 years. I’ve been looking at Legacys lately. I could get a 2 year old car with 30k miles for $18k or a brand new one for $21k with a lower interest rate to boot. (I won’t go older because of the aforementioned safety concerns.) Tell me how the used car makes more sense for me.
IT DEPENDS.

Not to mention you save $1750 off your taxes because you can deduct the sales tax paid on a new car…that pays for it right there.
I wouldn’t buy new because new really doesn’t matter all that much to me,relaiable and getting me from A to B is what I look for, nothing fancy,I really don’t travel long distances either.
I’d drive a TBSS,luckily for me I can wait a few years and scoop one up for a 1/8th of the retail.:biglaugh:
Wait, I forgot about this. You can deduct the whole thing?
I just bought a used 2006 Grand Cherokee Laredo, loaded with leather, V8, power everything. Only 30,000 miles on it. Got a great deal at over 1/2 off the original price.
I picked it up from a dealer. If any of you have bought used, did you get it from a dealer, private owner, or find it online (Autotrader)?
And did any of you buy a used car online through ebay or from a dealer out of state?
From a financial standpoint, this argument can go on and on. You pay more in one year to lease an SUV than many others spend on their “POS” rides which they OWN and have resale value on.
Right, just sparking a good debate here…
THE WHOLE THING.
I always bought, used. Because I had to.
Now that I’m comfortable, I went out and purchased a new truck. Particularly because if I’m spending $40k+ on a car it’s going to be everything I want. Being that they were only out for a year and an extremely rare package to find, I took the dive. Only because I would make me happy.
Finding a used truck in exactly what I wanted would’ve been nice, but it didn’t exist. I actually wished that I would’ve leased it, but at 20,000+ miles a year, the savings is negligible for me.
Plus, it depends on what you’re buying.
I for one could’ve purchased a used Highlander with sub 10,000 miles for about $2,000 less than what I picked a new one up for.
If it’s a Pontiac and you’re saving $5,000+ for a year older, obviously go for it.
Im gonna be possibly buying new soon. Depends on what the car is.
Like if i wanted an Evo im gonna go buy a new one cause in that 2k miles the car could of been beat on every second it was driven.
Plus the warranty is nice, even though nothing happens till their up, but if your car is well maintained at least you know it was.
Im done buying used cars or should i say used cars in a private sale.
Are you referring to the same model as far as safety or in general?
In that scenario it doesn’t. But there are other makes/models that depreciate substantially more where the decision to buy used might be better.
my focus was bought new because at the time it was actually cheaper than a lightly used version of the same car. There were some big rebates and an employee discount (before they all started giving it to everybody) that made it an easy decision.
Completely depends on what you want in a car and your budget. There was no way I was going to touch the performance of a used z06 for what I paid. If you are looking for a certain level of performance or luxury used is always the way to go on an average person’s budget.
never buying new.To much of a loss
I think it was turbodss who made that thread recently about buying one. They are pretty solid cars and not expensive or hard to fix. I’m still waiting for the right one to come along or I might just do the swap (better than a car payment).
I myself would not buy a brand new car. I don’t think I could handle feeling the value drop when I pull out of the lot. With proper maintence and a thorough evaluation of a potential used car, you will be saving a shitload of money.
Whoops my mistake, sorry about that.
Bought my truck with 172,000 on the clock, now has 212,000 on it. I work it like a dog and have no regrets at all. The thing’s a powerhouse and it’ll take a real beating. This past summer I was loaded heavy and towing a really heavy load and was pushing 36psi of boost at an egt of 1250* for close to 10 minutes sustained. The exhaust mani and turbo had to have been glowing orange. I’d never buy a new one, even more so now with the new diesel emission BS stuck all over the engine. Mechanical injection ftw!
As long as I can keep finding clean low mileage 90s Honda’s, I will continue buying used. Paid $3k for my 91 accord 9yrs. ago and its still runs as great as the day I got it and it still only has 92k on it. I like the fact that if something does break or need to be replaced, I can just got to the junkyard or online for cheap parts and not get ass raped by the dealership.
your trailblazer may be reliable for you, but it sure isnt considered quality in many circles. dont get me wrong, i like them alot but they arent really something to boast about as a pinnacle of quality.
no need to compare finances. darn near anyone can finance a new car. few are patient and wise enough to save up for their purchases and avoid the interest (if not a 0% loan) and debt. i could easily swing a hefty new car payment but its not a wise choice when much better deals can be found.
the lack of that kind of mentality is why our country is in such a financial mess. financing means that you dont really have the money for something.
