Would You Buy a New Car?

Ahhh…gotcha. Makes…sense?

tons of cents

Well we’re all gunna die someday, glad we are doing something useful and fulfilling on here with it.

To most people cars are transportation, I can work on a car and don’t see how getting a ride to drop my car off at the dealer and then getting a ride to pick it up is convenient. I will enjoy life and part of that is driving cars I enjoy.

This just reminds me of one guy banging a virgin and knowing it’s not pre-abused vs. another one banging a dirty whore and making the argument “Well if she was going to get an STD, she would have done it in the first 20 guys. Now that she’s been with 40, you know she’s clean.”

Oh, almost forgot, cars haven’t changed. Ever.

Side curtain airbags either don’t exist on new cars or have been installed on all cars. Not sure about that one since nobody will touch my point that safety technology has improved every year so that is one valid reason to buy new. Fuel efficiency? I won’t bring that up so I don’t have to read comparisons between 20 year old tin cans with wheels and newer better vehicles that get the same mileage. Durability? Again there is no such thing as wear, only factory defects. (Apparently there’s no such thing as rust either.) Interior materials/luxury? You have to be wealthy to be allowed to spend money on something nice.

:bigclap:

Also I would like to add that my vote can be bought and anyone who buys me this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/09-CTS-V-SUPERCHARGED-556hp-RECARO-SEATING-NAVIGATION_W0QQitemZ290381662388QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item439c1888b4 will immediately sway me to the used car group.

Also, if cars are just transportation, why does it matter if my used car is just as reliable as a new one. Somebody wants to justify their loss. Using a car to prove you aren’t poor means it’s more than just transportation, it’s a symbol. When I have the money, I won’t be buying something that depreciates, I’ll buy a classic that stands out from every car on the road.

Why not prove you aren’t poor by traveling the world. I’m an automotive guy and I see nothing wrong with driving a piece of shit, if it’s just transportation there are far better experiences to be had in life than buying a new car. We are so wrapped up in working and paying for stuff we are indebted to.

Middle America, HOMOGENIZE!!!

LOL at the people that need to have a new car to hold up a bullshit image of not looking poor…unless you paid straight cash for it, you’re not ballin’ as hard as you may think.

No no no. Someday when you’re big and buy a new car you’ll find out that they will just let you borrow a car the whole time yours is in the shop.

“But I could just have two shittier cars for the same price. You’re paying for that loaner you know.”

I’d rather have one car that is twice as nice.

Unless you’re driving a Geo Prizm you purchased your car with a certain amount of personal preference in the decision of what you want to get for your money.

Some people want to pay less and are OK with getting less comfort, safety, and reliability. Others are willing to pay more to get more. And don’t fucking argue that used cars are just as reliable as new cars. They aren’t. That argument is irrational. Factory defects are not the same thing as mechanical parts wearing out.

New vs used is an arbitrary argument. We could have the exact same argument with the exact same points on both sides arguing a 5 year old used car vs a 10 year old used car.

The bottom line is you get what you pay for and you have to decide for yourself whether or not it is worth it to you to pay a premium to get a brand new car. Most of us on here are probably better off buying used and for very valid and rational reasons, but it’s just ignorant to say that buying new is always a poor choice.

The people who are saying to buy new to not look poor are joking.

LOL You don’t want to go down that road.

If only I hadn’t bought a car new I’d have been able to travel enough to have needed extra pages sewn into my passport. Oh, wait…

Bump. This is the only used legacy with a stick and under 30k miles within 100 miles of here.

Basil is asking $19k for it. I’ve already been quoted under $21k for a brand new 2.5i Limited with the cold weather package and I haven’t even gotten into playing dealers off each other. So that’s a $3k difference if I get the used car down to $18k. But I’ll write off $1836 in taxes on the new one thanks to the stimulus bill. So that’s a $1164 dollar difference. Plus the interest rate new is 4.9 and used is 5.9, so if I get the used one down to $18k then I pay $81 dollars less interest over 4 years.

So it will cost me $1083 to buy a newer car with zero miles and no previous owners. Hell that’s not even a premium for the new car, I’ll gladly pay $1k to have a 2.5 year newer car.

So there you have it. It is cheaper for me to buy a brand new legacy than a 2 year old Legacy with 23k miles.

Snipe

I will accept liquid payment for alerting you on that tax credit.

OK I’ll hose you down.

if you want to hoes me down that would be acceptable.

LOL the west herr guy put his quotes in his email, which was already a lower price for a car with more options. Forwarded to Northtown. Awaiting response. :biglol:

OMG, I just read this thread for the first time, that was awesome.

:highfive:

Or you could man up and buy a real car.

I’ve had less problems with my M3 from milage 85K-110K then my dad has had with his silverado from 0-25K miles.

What dealer do you guys use that give you a free loaner car? When my Colorado went in for work they didn’t give me shit, same case for my father’s Silverado.

I’ll continue to buy used, because I’m never in a hurry to buy a car and can ALWAYS find great deals.

I’ve owned almost 40 cars in my life now, never lost a dime on one, never lost a job because my cars weren’t reliable.

Yep, used is usually the way to go. I’m not arguing that, or at least never intended to. Once in a while it makes sense to buy new, or at least I can find a way to justify new.

EDIT: Northtown will give you a loaner if your car is going to be in for a while. It’s not like they’ll do it for an oil change.
