writing cd's/dvd's in vista = locked up machine?

I’ve always used nero or an equivalent program for writing discs. I still use them in XP, but the versions I have don’t work in Vista.

While in vista, if I use the built in burning ability, the computer writes the disc fine but then when it should be done, it just locks up explorer. I’ve tried ending the process but it just sits there “thinking” forever until I’m forced to manually shut the computer down. Shutdown doesn’t work either, it just hangs at the “logging off” screen.

Alcohol 120% writes fine though in vista… it’s really odd. any ideas? I don’t use vista very often to write cd’s, but it would be nice to have the ability when I need it.

all of the drives do this too btw

that cd you burned me that locked up still worked.

yeah, perfect example… that worked fine, but locked the computer up. I can’t figure out the problem

just wrote another disc today and did the same thing, but the disc works fine. It’s odd.

i tried burning a sex and the city dvd for the wife last nite. Nero tells me its been copy writed. I also run vista. Have you had any issues with copy write protection? sorry if this is a lil OT

Thats because it is copy protected. You need to decrypt it and shink it to get it onto a DVD-5…

Nero wont do this (at least to my knowledge)…

The built in windows burner in XP causes my machine to hang, but the discs come out playable.

It hangs on leadout for some reason, my workaround was to install the open source CDBurnerXp…

I put this on my brother’s vista machine the other day, it works good in vista not just xp.

yeah, just use something like dvd decryptor to rip the copy protection out of it first.

justin, thanks for the heads up man. I’ll check that software out
