WTB: Gaming Computer

Looking for a nice gaming computer that has a solid graphics card and runs XP.

Need this for IRacing (racing simulator). These are the system requirements from their website, but I’d like something overkill;

System Requirements

Windows XP or Windows Vista
Hyperthreaded Intel CPU, AMD Athlon 64 CPU, or any dual-core CPU
128MB Pixel Shader 2.0 (ATI 9700Pro or nVidia 6600 or better); 256 MB Pixel Shader 3.0 (ATI X1600 or nVidia 6800 GT/GS or better recommended) graphics adapter
1 GB system RAM
3Gb free hard disk space
Steering wheel and pedals required
Microphone optional, required for voice chat
Internet Browser Requirements

Firefox 1.5, Internet Explorer 6, or newer
Javascript enabled
Cookies enabled
Flash Player

Post what you have.

Also looking for a nice flat screen TV or huge monitor.

i sent ya a pm (well i will in 2 seconds)

Im in need of same… Singh to me

Wondering what the appeal in iRacer is? Seems 13 a month for the minimal features you get is pretty lame.

and I havent read much on iRacer but Live for speed is the dominant game in terms of real life physics out there right now, you can literaly adjust everything.

Check craigslist. There are a ton of high performance setups there.

Prob should get this too !

Building one is going to be your best bet. If you don’t know how, I am sure there are a few people on here that would be willing to help you out…

iRacer is the most accurate racing simulator ever made. They do thorough scans of real tracks and create a game that is accurate to within 1 millimeter. So every bump, minor crack, any pavement imperfection shows up.

I will be using it as a tool to learn new tracks before I actually race on them, and of course practice at tracks I have already been on.

Do want.

Yeah there are some talented members here that may be able to help us out.

That is really, really cool. I’d love to try this iRacer out, but do not want to get the equipment or pay to get it :lol

SkiBoard

me or singh could build you a computer along with quite a few members…

Let me know and ill make up a parts list and run it by you…

And about iracer again, that is pretty neat! Its cool that they have acctual tracks, but if you want physics… Live for speed is where its at… unfortunatly its a more fictional game, cars arent real cars but resemble real ones and I dont know if the tracks are based on anything real…

But most realistic physics out there right now :thumbup so it might be worth chekcing out

What’s your budget?

I have a crazy computer.

Here are the highlights:

2GB DD3 1600 Memory (OCZ Platinum)
Core 2 Duo E6850 Chip (3.0Ghz)
Two DVD±RW drives (one Sony and one Samsung I believe - burn DVD±DL as well)
Card Reader
768MB GeForce 8800 Ultra Video Card
780W PowerSupply (Modular Cable Design)
Hard Drive and Both Memory Modules are Cooled

I spent $2,200 on this in November 2007. Still have no issues running any of the news games at full settings such as Crysis, Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, etc.

I’d want close to $1k for this, although I should probably go through and get a similar spec. machine priced out and see how much something like this runs these days.

PM me if you are interested in talking numbers.

This machine was built by me. I also build machines for a hobby so if you can’t get a time or whatever worked out with one of the other guys, let me know.

Shady, the whole idea is that when we show up to a race, like we did at Thunderbolt 2 weeks ago… that we know the track… and in some cases, we can pick our marks. But I know I will own a variety of driving games/sims

Oh no doubt Jammer I just dident realize that the game was aimed at more the relism of the tracks and accuracy… Now if they mated iDriver with LFS it would be epics…

and Ilya… thats not a crazy computer setup anymore :lol

Go pick up a ‘gaming machine’ from Best Buy or something and I’ll still decimate it with my machine. It’s clock speeds that make this computer better. It’s hard to find a video card with 2300mhz clock speed, even today. Also HD cache/buffer, memory timings, etc.

Some 1GB video cards aren’t as good as my 768MB card.

Well because best buy doesnt sell gaming machines… well real ones

3 years old… not crazy I could prolly build a machine better than that for ~1500

not saying its still not a good machine but deffinatly not crazy

Did this real quick so if something doesnt match up…

but 1300 for this setup

^ Nice video card, it’s good to see the prices drop on them, I haven’t looked at newegg in a few months. Your going to need a case still :lol

Theres one in there the Antec… Ive used it in quite a few builds awsome airflow for hot machines

:lol my bad, I had the Antec P180 and loved it. VERY quiet case!

Ditch the sound card in that setup, just about every motherboard out there as a good integrated sound card.

I’m building something very similar, but I’m getting a slightly less expensive graphics card (GTX 275 vs the GTX 285) and running 2 64G solid state drives in Raid 0 (for a total of 128gigs with SUPER fast read speeds).

Integrated sound card while getting much better… Do not have the options and clairity that a 3rd party card does.

When I have my X-Fi set as my default vs the Integrated you can deffinatly tell a difference in quality… and plus in a gaming situation it takes less load off of the processor… Not that that means much no a days but id rather pay 50 bucks for quality sound and more features

If you have a shitty set of speakers like some cheap 30 dollar logitechs or something im sure it wont be as noticeable… but when you have a nice setup you can tell
