Not sure if there is a gaming pc thread on here, but we should def start one. I’m pretty sure there are a few guys who tinker with them.
Lately I have been getting more into my gaming/media setup at home and decided to dive head first into it. I bought the Lenovo server, dropped a couple HD’s in it, got my shows/games on there and used it for a while until the OS took a crap and then I decided I was going to use Windows going forward. @JayS will get a kick out of that since he told me to use Windows from the start. lol
Anyways, I started looking at new systems and realized that a used one was probably better for me at the moment. I wanted to spend less money and play around with things. If I break it, it’s only that much less I would have spent on it.
I found this setup and immediately snatched it.
Intel Core i7-2600K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor (w/ Stock Heat-sink, has never been overclocked)
Asus P8Z68-V PRO ATX LGA1155 Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory (Dual Channel, 8 CAS)
Plextor PX-M2 Series 128GB 2.5" Solid State Drive (For Operating System and VIP Apps)
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Ti 1GB Video Card
Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced ATX Full Tower Case
Corsair Professional 750W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer
Microsoft Windows 7 Pro SP1 (64-bit)- was running Win 10 Preview edition, but rolled back until release @ end of this month.
I soon after upgraded a few pieces:
Replaced my current 3 oddball monitors with matching 23" AOC IPS LED screens
Also grabbed a like new 3 monitor stand off CL from a small computer shop by UB
Logitech G700s rechargable/wireless gaming mouse
Razer BlackWidow Mechanical keyboard
Razer Tatarus Gamepad
I upgraded one of the fans to a 120mm with red led with 3 speed switch
I added my 4 TB HD into this as well, so I’m pretty much stocked on storage for a while
I have a 4k 65" TV in the living room I ran a 25’ HDMI cable to so that I can play The Witcher 3 on and I must say, it’s pretty awesome. Same with Batman, when it works.
I prefer the 3 screen most times for racing, Farm Simulator 15 and a few others, but being able to actually use 4k is pretty sweet. Up until now it’s either been 1080p downscaled or use Netflix/Youtube to actually watch 4k native stuff.
Anyways here’s my current setup:
My future purchases will include:
G27 wheel and chair setup
Possibly moving up to 1 or 2 980 cards, but my 970 seems to handle just fine for now.
Feel free to share your current setups. This is all still fairly new to me, so I like to see what everyone else runs, what works/doesn’t work, etc…
