WTB: Xbox 360 HD DVD Drive

Just what the title says…

Aren’t you worried that it’s 170+ for a drive that will probably be the next betamax?

Hate to break it to you but I don’t think that’s gonna happen. I went looking for 300, every store I went to (FYE, Target, etc) were sold out of the HD-DVD but had plenty of Blu Ray… Granted that’s a very small slice of the big picture but the big selling point (my guess) for people is the backward comaptibility. You can buy HD stuff now, play the regular DVD content in your exisiting player and when the price comes down, you can get the HD player and be set.

Let me help you out…

Newegg.com has the Microsoft Xbox 360 HD DVD Player for a good deal.

Nice, I was gonna go with Mwave Direct but I didn’t know there were coupons… Thanks!

Blu-Ray is getting an even bigger boost as Blockbuster Inc. (nyse: BBI - news - people ) announced it would stock only Blu-ray titles when it expands its high-def DVD offerings this year. Target (nyse: TGT - news - people ) Inc., the nation’s second-largest retailer, said it will only sell Blu-ray DVD players in its stores in the fourth quarter.

Sony Pictures, News Corp. (nyse: NWS - news - people )'s Twentieth Century Fox, The Walt Disney Co. (nyse: DIS - news - people ), and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer are releasing only in Blu-ray. Universal, owned by General Electric Co. (nyse: GE - news - people ), is the only major studio to back HD DVD exclusively.

That sounds bad. I have no stake in either format, because I’m refusing to buy either until I know which will stick around.

I highly suggest checking this site everyday. it is loaded with deals and coupons that most people on this site would use.

Regardless of which is going to take off, ~$150 is not a huge investment so I am not gonna sweat if it does become the next

Betamax
Memory Stick
Minidisk

As for 300 being sold out in HD-DVD at your local target, Blu-Ray is outselling HD-DVD 2:1 nationally.

Yet again WNY is backwards

If it was the difference between VHS and DVD I’d have one by now. But a progressive scan DVD looks pretty damn good on my TV, so I’m not dropping any money on an HD player until I know which one will win.

I have loved Bluray. Just not a fan of paying $25 bucks for a blank disc so I returned my burner/player.

When the price goes down and I get a new TV, Bluray is def something I am going to be (prolly just get a PS3 for it).

we have them at toys r us for 179.99. i could hook up a 10% discountoff that, it’s not much but it’ll save the tax and a little biit more.

edit: that newegg price is pretty good
