It would hold up, but not to a ton of power. Under 200hp should work. It would be just like a constant one wheel peel!
ehhh but who wants to keep under 200hp??? im sure a small car like that would still rocket with that kind of power but i was thinking u might want to put it in the 250 range.
I think I’d rather stick to conventional RWD power for now, someone has to know of something laying around. I PMed the new owner of my 318 to ask if I can buy it back, that would be perfect. So I guess I should add 2002,320,318 to the list. The car doesn’t even have to run.
An interesting SM discussion on SCCAForums.com brought up a good idea - bike motor. Could be had for cheap, and will scream in a small car like that. Of course - you would get more hp from a real motor, but if you keep the weight down enough, and add a turbo…sequential transmission included…
a chain drive would be easy to implement and very light, as long as the car is small it would work. that is the design i had thought up for a large go kart project.
There is a 1979 Yellow RX-7 sitting in someones yard outside of Canandaigua I talked to them about it the said 500 but would go lower. Hope this Helps.
the whole bike motor thing was done, newman posted a vid of a caterham with a hyabusa motor in it, thing was nuts
let me know how this goes, i’m very curious
i always wanted a lotus or caterham super 7
cool project, do you plan to do all the welding/fabrication? How much comes from a donor car?
btw…duratec>zetec
omg omg you have to have more than 200 hp, how can a car be fast without 200 hp omg omg you have to turbo it omg omg
^^ funny man. I never said it wouldnt be fast if it wasnt a mid 200hp car. I said it wouldnt be over the top fast. If i were to build a car like this i would want my cheeks pealed back like atom style.
100 WHP in that car would be FTD territory locally.
while the duratec is up and coming, it has its downsides. the duratec is a torque MONSTER, but has some weak internals depending on which version you get. cosworth is coming out with alot of upgrades as well, which sucks for us zetec guys, because by the time they started getting into developement of the aftermarket for the focus, the zetec wasnt being used anymore, so of course they had to focus(no pun intended) on the duratec. the zetec however is a dime a dozen compared to the duratec, and there is a crapload of parts out there from the numerous other ford cars that used the zetec…the zetec is a pretty darn strong motor when tuned properly, there are guys making over 350whp on stock internals with the correct fuel and timing changes. the duratecs do make great power on boost, but they are too new of a setup to know how well they will last under boosted apps.
there is a good shape 2002 for sale in ohio, needs a rebuild of the carb and there is an ignition problem, i could get it for $500. 4-speed manual
im not reading this whole thread to see if some1 already said this, but check the paper, i think i saw one in there today for like $1300 if im not mistaken.
$1300 is about $1200 more than I’m willing to spend for a junker.
Yes, the donor provides engine, tranny, axles and spindles, pedals, e-brake, wirind/fuses/relays…pretty much everything but the frame and body. Several donors will be used, for example I will be using readily available pinto or chevette front spindles and other front end hardware, and another car for the rest.
I do. 130hp will be more than enough, that’s my target.
I’m not boosting it so I don’t care.
Ive got a Toyota Cressida Frams Cracked… altho its an auto I can sorce you a manual (ether free or cheap)
For the unwise the cressida is a 4 door lexus type car with the supra Drive line 3.0 inline 6 DOHC.
200 and its yours.
