Yanks start trade talks with Twins for Johan Santana

Haren would be a god send. Mike Hampton not being a pussy would also be a god send. The sob hasn’t played in 2 season and is the highest payed player on the roster.

They need to lock up Tex now because he def is a stud.

Santana is going to be 29 and who knows how many years he’s got left at 96-98 but I guess as long as he still has his good change, he’s good to go. I doubt he’s got 8-10 left, Sammy-boy. Liriano is done as my mom’s roast chicken. He’ll be luck to have + anything after the surgery. I only know of one pitcher who got better after TJ and that was Billy Koch who could light the gun up into trips on occasion.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea but I have a feeling it’s going to bite them in the ass if they dump the young arms.

Hampton is done. He’s barely good enough to pitch in the NL and would get murdered in the AL East much less the AL in general.

You are betting on ALOT to think all three will turn out as top tier pitchers. Joba/Hughes will not go, but I think they’d deal Kennedy fo sho.

The Twins will not take anyone but Hughes or Chamberlain. There is no way they give up Santana for Kennedy and position players.

ok fine. 8-10 is a stretch. 5-6 i think is realistic to think he could sustain his current level.

so i would give up kennedy. probably not hughes. and definitely not joba. but i would seriously consider kennedy.

Hampton would be NL East. Which is much easier than the Al East, but still getting somewhat competitive with the Nats developing.

If they could just get rid of Kennedy, I would say, “pull that trigger” but that would probably include Kennedy, Cabrera, Cano, minor leaguer and a future draft pick plus $$$…

no way, old man!

you aren’t dealing for a pitcher who is locked up. the twins run the risk of demanding too much and getting nothing in return for santana when he walks (which he will); in comparison to the yankees, who run the risk of keeping 3 lively arms and having a full young rotation.

yankees leverage > twins leverage

Not quite since there is a multitude of demand for Santana. Red Sox, Mets, Dodgers, etc all would want this guy. The only saving grace for Santana is his “No Trade” clause so he can be choosey about who he wants to go to OR if he finds a place he wants to go to but does not like idea of being traded, he can veto the trade and wait til he is a free agent in '09 and collect a REAL paycheck.

Exactly, there is MORE leverage on the Twins side because the thought of Santana going to the SAWWWWKS (even if its a small possibility) is enough to scare the Yanks into overpaying. We’ve seen this before…

good counterpoints.

i guess i forget that the yankees have the steinbrenner assholes at the helm.

Luckily for Yanks haters the kids appear to be dumb assholes. But you know Jorge wouldn’t give them supper if it came down to them saying no to rolling out Johan in Yanks pinstripes.

Red Sox>Yankees
Braves>Mets

If Santana is going to be traded…the team willing to part with two top shelf prospects and a MLB regular will demand a window to negotiate a contract extention with Santana before the deal is complete.

I hate to say it but I like the sons of Satan. I think they are great for the “new” Yankees. I think they are gonna be better for the Yankees than George was because they have a bit more patience and are much more level-headed.

i think kennedy is better than hughes TBH

trade hughes, he’s a kerry wood in waiting

but its all good, pass on santana, we need him in queens, LOS METS

After reading some stats, I think he is a good pickup. I didn’t realize how many pitchers got the majority of their wins after 29…

Chamberlain > Hughes > Kennedy.
