he said falling underneath the car with the tires moving.
you were at a track, what if someone had rc cars and got out of control?

How would he fall under the car when his trajectory was over the car?
^crash while going up it. if he would have lost control while building up speed to jump, hits the ramp sideways then falls over the top of the ramp bringing certain skidmarks on him.
Hmm, good catch. I’m glad someone actually read it, haha. 0.661m was the correct value… Also, there were a LOT of broad generalizations in there made for the sake of winning an internet argument. Really I != .25mr^2, either.

First of all, Jack only crashes after flying minimum of 15 feet away from any ramp.
Second, at least any mishap would be through his own negligence, not someone plowing into him.
Poll added!
You’re kidding right?
The likelihood of Jack falling before his ramp, somehow managing to have enough speed to go over the ramp BUT not enough speed to go over the car AND ending up under Newman’s wheels is not in ANY WAY the same likelihood that a drifting car screwing up its line and crashing into a photographer standing on the inside line.
Lastly, I’d just like to point out that all the participants in the Bike stunt were PERSONAL FRIENDS of the event coordinator. He knew their limits, their personalities, skills, and trusted them. Josh does not know yeamabu. Josh does not know all the drivers competing in the event. Maybe there are some janky ass nissans piloted by noobs driving around a potentially sue-happy photographer… Josh doesn’t know. Risk mitigation.
If Joe-Shmo wanted to line up under the ramp and do a heater, I doubt josh would have let him.
Ultimately it’s Josh’s event and if he doesn’t feel comfortable with it, then don’t complain. Try and show up at a pro sporting event and hopping down on the field with the other photographers… If they are allowed, well, shouldn’t YOU be?
Moved to NET-AUTO so the Canadian drifters can chime in on the poll
WTF!!! I was like " I damn well didnt start this thread" lol I really dont give a shit where this goes. Either way, just like people chancing taking there car around a track and possibly crashing it, I would like to stand where I want to take a photos and chance myself. its a similar situation. regarless of what is safer or not. Its my own choice if I want to chance it or not. Its obviously the choice of the organizer or facility dont get me wrong. but the choice is mine to even bother trying to do it.
they are both not safe. tires pop, pieces go flying and can seriously injure someone. along with that, Josh sorry to say, those people are infront of the wall that newmans car is pointed at. they are pretty much infront of the car. You damn well know people slide over more and more to get a better view.
as for standing on the track. clearly that is more dangerous due to the fact you have a 2500lb - 3500lb car sliding around a track breaking traction on purpose. if it looses control, it has the possibility of hitting you and killing you being that all that way is going to travel over you and then some.
either way. chance I was willing to take given the option.
bottom line… who cares, I cant do it, so I dont give a fuck anymore. lol
haha, point well said, and this is the last time i stick up for other members but at least I get to draw pictures!
anything is possible, could have blew out a tire/frame broke in half a few feet from the ramp and slid under, there’s endless things that could have gone wrong to put him next to the ramp and not over the ramp
hell riding a 20" i’ve had my frame break apart right at the front before, along with my front wheel falling off another time, and i’ve probably been riding bikes just as long if not longer than anyone else on here. i’m the crazy one that rides trails in shorts/tshirt and no helmet
i’m not trying to argue, just saying its totally possible to happen, and the damage would be just as bad i would imagine

it would have been way cooler if you used finger paints imo, just sayin
lol, getting silly isn’t it?
Kevin, you weren’t there man. Neither was AndyB.
No one who was there was in danger of being run over by Newman’s car. There were what, 60 people watching? And none of them have posted in this thread to agree with you.
Yeah, but are they MORE LIKLEY to occur than
That’s the question. And the answer is no.
lol
Like I said, Cant be done. I’d like to risk my own to get a good picture… my option to do so. I’m not allowed to so thats the end of it. Point I was originally getting at, I dont care how dangerous either one is, I would have done both.
I’m just here to say that this thread sucks.
Of course i read it! I was an engineer for like 5 minutes. But knowing you, the 6.5" wheels wouldn’t have been too much of a stretch. Pun intended.
One additional note to this entire argument, that I can’t believe hasn’t been stated, is that Newman was in the water box. Even if his brakes did fail during said burnout he would have came out at a brisk walking pace for the first 10-15 feet then started to get traction. During that brief period anyone with a pulse would have realized this and either shutdown the car or got the he’ll out of the way.
L8APEX1, did you vote for the wrong choice in the poll then?
Personally i think both are stupid. (not the people, the trying to take pictures of retards attempting to drift and jumping over a burning out car)
But to think nothing wrong could happen in the car jumping is dumb.
And there’s like 8 inches of water to the right of newmans right tire and he has about a foot of movement allowed foward before he is completely out of any water. i trust newmans driving but still anything can happen.
But you can die on the way to work. Choke on water and die. Swallow a bee and get stung in the throat and die. Get hit by a drifting car and get killed. Case the jump going over a burning out car fall back and break your neck and die. If you’re going to think like that then you might as well stay home all day and be a pussy… oh wait, u could die from carbon monoxide. the world is unsafe!!!
AndyB convinced me.
Also.
Jack rules.
Also.
I don’t believe you people drive to these events.
Driving is dangerous.
strawman shit fggt!!
Getting smashed by a car that the throttle sticks on/tire blows/ driver error/ wtf happens while standing there and getting completely fucked up for life and being a miserable couch potatoe = maybe 1/20 chance for the day
the guy on the bike fucking up/ bike breaking/ ramp breaking (only 3 ways that could go wrong)chances of happening = maybe 1/200 chance of happening, also the damage done to the person would be next to nothing, few bruises and scrapes, at worst his ankle hits the wheel and gets fucked up or something, no matter what= he still lives and isnt stuck in hospital bed for life.
standing beside the driftin car is worse, BY FAR, especially when that corner will be drifted around couple hundred times a day
of course though with your logic your going to say something rediculous what if newmans flywheel blew apart and a stray part flew and hit the guy on the bike in the neck and slit it. but try using common sense

also you say youve been biking forever, yet only TWICE has something gone wrong that COULD POSSIBLY result in a shitty ending to the bike jump
how many times has the average drifter at this event lost a line? im willing to bet more than twice
