I dunno if anyone has any experiance with these? but how reliable are they? like i was thinking of getting one, or a mk3 supra, but the supras have alot of problems with head gaskets and things i hear. Like i know z32’s are a piece of work, i was kinda hoping to not go down that road. I would like an out of the box decently fast turbo car, and i like the z31. My boss just picked up a 87 Grand National and it makes me want a turbo so bad it hurts. heh, any info is appretiated.
Grand nationals are way better than Z31’s…
i had a buddy with like 5 Z31’s, he made one of them decently fast…
it is still a very heavy car with a limited aftermarket.
they are not particulalrly nimble and they are harder to find in great shape than a S13.
NA camor SS 1999. just drove one yestday. I am not much of an amreican car fan but a NA that runs 13.1 in the QM stock its pritty amazing. I had the thing going all over the road well trying to go in a strait line. this one sold for 9000 with 240 000km still ran HARD!
If you are going to get something, get the mk3 supra. Granted they are heavy, but you can easily mod them for some serious HP and TQ. My friend is doing a N/A to turbo swap and it is only costing him about 1.5k. He got the turbo engine for 7bills (that was expensive )has gotten port and polish, machined head, brand new gaskets, water pump, the works. Those cars are easy to push mad hp. With a little tuning they are also reliable. They are just big and heavy compared to a 240. But then again, a few mods and you are easily pushing over 300hp. Just my opinion. Really depends on what you want with your car.
I wasn’t that impressed with my mk3 supra. Too heavy and old for my tastes. Anything can be made to go fast.
k, i know about the lack of aftermarket, but i dont particularily care, im not looking for a race care, but comparitly to an my 90 s13, a turbo 300zx will be a frigen rocket. What im worried about is reliablilty, i dont want a mk3 supra because they are alot of work, ive known quite a few people who owned em, and all cursed there existance. So, what i wanna know is how reliable a 87-89 z31 300zx turbo will be.
And yea, i know a GN is much better then either, but not in the budget, and i would prolly jsut kill myself if i had one like my boss’s, prolly the fastest car ive ever been in. Its even faster then his built 71 mach1 with a 351 cleveland.
no one has owned a z31?
z31’s are quite expensive for their age. I’ve never considered buying the car due to the initial cost and the potential cost for repairs.
However have you considered a Eagle Talon TSI AWD? They’re cheaper and a turbo car… RX7-Turbo, MR2-Supercharged/Turbo… If i was going to spend the money i’d prolly consider the MR2-Turbo first.
well dsm’s are horribly unreliable, rx7’s are to much to repair, and mr2 turbos are seriously expensive, and the older supercharged ones are ugly.
Basically it comes down to supra, or z31, but those mk3 supras arent very reliable at all, so i was wondering about the z31.
well my buddy’s got a z31 and he likes it, he treats it well and it has lasted, but it might be a bit of a differnet since it was his brothers first, and i think his cousins before that so that care has been well kept for a long time, if you find one ina s good condition as his i dont see why it wouldnt be relaiable
