I saw it hit 179mph for a split second there near the end, damn! I like the corner he took at 154mph too!
oh my GOD! that vid is insane. The acceleration/handling in that thing are fucking crazy!!! Sounds awsome too. to GM. woot.
He was fighting that thing pretty bad. Str8 fucked up several turns. Not smooth at all. Obviously he can drive but in no way is Jim Mero in the class of a Johnny O’Connell or Jan Magnussen. I would venture to guess if GM had one of those guys driving the car could have been significantly faster. I’d love to see the kind of times one of those guys would rip off
That being said, you can tell the car skates around a lot on the stock tires. If you have seen a vid of a car running on R’s, amazing how much of a difference there is. Even the vid of the GTR, you can tell the vette was certainly more of a handful, atleast in Mero’s hands. Come to think of it, Heinricy was much smoother in the CTS-v.
Exactly. I am sure this guy is a very talented driver, no doubt, but I saw a BUNCH of corners where he could have improved. He was over-correcting too much, and he hit the rumble strips 2 or 3 times. He didn’t seem to shift very fast either.
Why Wouldn’t GM or any other car company hire the best driver they could buy for cars like this?
I’m sure they will at some point. I still find it incredible an engineer was able to pull that time off.
EDIT: On street tires no less.
Too many GT pros in this thread.
But come on, they auto-x they know what they are talking about
No one has claimed they could drive it any faster.
You don’t have to be a better golfer than Tiger Woods to know when he hits a drive into the rough it wasn’t a good drive.
You don’t have to throw a ball better than Manning to know an interception was a bad pass.
And you don’t need to be a better driver than Mero to watch that video and realize he left some time out there. 99% chance anyone trying to beat his time in that car would kill themselves long before they did it though. In ANY car for that matter.
Well put…
Uhh, that lap looked pretty hot to me.
Rumble strips are not always a bad thing.
It takes huge balls to drive that fast.
It’s one thing to push a slower car to it’s limits but my lord that would be scary.
I want to see Hans Stuck give it a try on the ring.
but wait???
I thought all wheel>rear wheel in all cases???:violin2:
To prove the point it does not take a “pro” to prove it is hands down a “better/faster” all around car and not just in a straight line like your typical muscle car sterotype.
I’m not a big Vette fan, but that was pretty damned imperssive.
:word:
true. But in all fairness, it’s pretty apparent that the lap "could’ve / should’ve been at least a few seconds shorter based on the driver. NOT THAT IT REALLY MATTERS.
fucking aaaaa.
I was definitely clenching my ass a little too hard when he almost lost it around 1:50 in the video.
That thing is silly.
edit- I can’t believe no one mentioned the chinsy looking air vents. God, what a pahss.
