My brief Subaru motor rant:
2.0 H4 that is properly designed for boosted applications in Euro/JDM land is one of the better engineered motors available on the market.
Subaru imports 2.5 H4 to USDM to ease emissons since they already have motor in 2.5RS. Cheap bastards.
Subaru doesn’t do any revisions to block to compensate for additional heat/wear that a boosted application puts a motor through.
EJ257 is horrible in USDM STi and fails almost at will due to oiling issues in block and heatsoak in pistons.
Subaru doesn’t warranty EJ257 motors that go boom. They expect this failure and know people will drive cars hard. Easy to say no.
