Are the WRXs really that prone to engine failure? I read that Subaru leans out the factory tunes for economical reasons, but then again who knows what these Ken Block wannabes are doing to them.

they have faulty ringlands… thousands of them failed… especially STI’s

That’s gay, and it looks like even the recent models are failing. That car in the first video has less than 6k on it and is allegedly stock. Da fuck? I thought Subarus were bulletproof :frowning:

This and it’s still a problem even on new models.

When I was shopping for new cars in '08 this was the reason I didn’t even consider the WRX/STi.

Just because a car is stock when it comes into the dealer dosent mean it was stock when it blew. I bet many of those failures are owners fault. They most likely had a access port or had some shitty ass tuner road tune it, Or they were improperly maintained, money shifted etc. Bottom line is EVERY car brand has problems, some are worse than others but subaru isn’t in buisness to sell cars with faulty motors. I really hate when modded subarus blow up and they still blame subaru. By no means am I saying they’re bullet proof or KOTS because they’re not but if you’re gonna mod something its on you if it pops.

subaru’s have a bad oiling system as well. this increases the failure rate too. ’

i’m sure adam will jump in and talk about it in more depth, but subaru’s motors have 1 oil pump. Porsche motors i belivev have 3 or more in some/most applications.

2.2L FTW!

I had a 96 legacy with the 2.2. Fucker would not die ever.

Yeah I have 98 Legacy Outback with a 2.2, the 2.5 originally in it went BOOM!

I had just over 200k on mine when I traded it in I believe. I beat the piss out of it too taking it “off road” jumping train tracks 4k clutch dumps etc. Hell one time I was on a dirt trail/road and submerged the front end driving through a deep as puddle/rut twice and it didn’t give me any grief. oh to be young and stupid again lol.

2nd video dude has no maf sensor on it or an airfilter with some type of BOV on it.
3rd video is front mount with high modification
4th video it sounds catless with some shitty bov on it
5th video its got a cold air intake and a shitty bov on it

if you slap a bunch of parts on it and have a shit tune on it or no tune (probably the case for the 2nd,4th, and 5th videos), you’re gonna blow the engine.

by this logic that means all honda civics are shitty because everytime some wanna be racer fan boi blows his engine from slapping a bunch of shit on it then racing it like he was in the fast and furious must mean that all civics are prone to having the engine blow on it.

no, those engines blew because they were driven poorly and/or modified without tunes.

im also taking this thread with a huge grain of salt considering the OP has a car for which there is not even a company anymore…

Chevrolet doesn’t exist anymore? But yeah you can YouTube (insert any car here) blown motor and find lots of vids.

i thought he had a saab. if not then statement retracted and grain of salt added back.

Ring issues have happened with stock motor Subies as well. I’m not saying the modifications didn’t contribute to the premature failing I’m just saying that the underlying issue is there regardless.

They blow up on the stock tunes. Repetitively. U mad?

or because of faulty bearings. there is a bunch of early production 09’s that spun the rod bearings. not always ringlands. either way subarus suck…

your really trying to stand up for these POS of cars?

He sounds like a used car salesman.
