meh, junkyard tranny = $300, new clutch packs etc = another $300 (im guessing) so not bad. I drove mine for over a year and a half on a low milage tranny before popping it, and that included many track passes and a shit load of skip shifts…
im fabbing a intercooler for mine, anticipating spending $600 for everything so…
yes all quite easy to do, except making an ic, im not sure about that, well see how well/if mine works lol. Only thing is you would seriously want to do is have it profesionally tuned…
all 17 year olds are really good for their age. i’m not your dad. i don’t really care what you do but seriously think about it.
i really think you should consider an old BMW. you would have a blast. my room mate has a couple old e30’s and we beat the fuck out of them with no concern for the safety of the car, and we can’t seem to break them. the one car is a super hero. it should have been dead years ago, yet it keeps going.
ot: i made my IC, out of cardboard LOL , i need to grab that core from you
but yeah, i kinda hate my gtp, but i think its only because im bored with it. Previous to it, ive never had a car for more than 6mos, and ive had this one for almost 2yrs now, im getting kinda bored with it…
you can pick up a late 80’s bmw (e30) for about 1500 bucks in good condition if you look. they look like this. this is an M3 but you’ll get the idea.
or you can get a nice mid 90’s e36 right in your budget. if you look hard, you might even have enough left over to buy a nice set of wheels for it too. here’s a pic of an e36.
bottom line is, you have an inline 6, leather, amazing shifters, great balance, incredible handling, and rear wheel drive. all stock. and you can only go up from there.
personally, i never saw the attraction to GTP’s. but i know they can go fast.
Im sorry GTPs might be fast, but thats it other wise the suck, the refinement does not compare to and audi,
If you live in a snow area Quattro is leet
If you want something really reliable audis might not be for you, I love my A4 and (knock on wood) I haven’t had to fix anything on it yet (knock on wood) Ive only had it for 15k
sorry I think GTPs look like crap, drive like crap, have crappy trannies, no 5 spd, no class etc.
I appreciate that, ill come out for one of these cruise things that happen, or join up at Lancaster or Leicester speedways…i have to be organized since i gotta haul from the ROc
With all of the stuff you have posted in this thread and what others have said, an AUDI IS NOT THE CAR FOR YOU!
Spend atleast a few minutes of your own time and research these cars. The B5 1996-2001 Audi A4 is 2.8L in V6 form and 1.8L as a 4cyl. The 3.2 did not exist at this time.
With the hp numbers you are looking for in the B5 model that you are seeking, it would cost way more money than you could imagine on a v6 or 1.8T. Not too mention all of the maintenace issues that come with owning a higher mileage Audi.
A v6 Audi is a solid daily driver, but not fast cause they are heavy. A 1.8T is a tuner platform with abilities to see some higher hp numbers at the cost of reliability and a bunch of cash.
Please do us all a favor and seriously invest some time into your own research or do not buy an Audi.
my gtp is 100x nicer than any of my maximas, they have some interesting features, and accomodate my 315lb ass pretty well. Im not arguing, but, while an audi may be classier, youre gonna have to live like a scumbag to afford the maintenence. I will have $9k total into my car, it wont break (except the tranny), it has a nice interior, the bose is fucking leet, headsup is awesome, and its a total sleeper…
and i really like they way they look, to me audis look like generic boxes, bimmers are even worse. GTPs have some real nice lines (for what they are)
edit: what im trying to argue is that for the $8k pricerange, gtp offers a great balance of quasi-luxury and speed.
I do like the looks of them as well, my dads 02 bonnie has bose and Headsup basiclly all the same shit and its a SSEI, drove that once and wanted a GTP ever since.
This may have lasted all of a half hour, but im pretty set in my mind that the GTP is the best way to go, just to have a $800 dollar cushion at all times when trannys want to pop
