1 or 2 10"s

In my 99 std cab ranger I have 2 10"s with no loss of leg room. The subs are blowing directly into the back of the seats. As it is now, each sub only has .75 cf of airspace and they just aren’t loud enough. I was thinking about making a single 10 box with 1cf of airspace. With the new sub box the sub would blow right at your elbows when they are on the armrest, i have 60/40 buckets. So which do you think will sound better?

sell subs, put money towards performance part.

the 3 ten’s box owns all

:offtopic:  come on someone

you’re better off with 2 10’s. get a bigger amp if you want it louder

do they still make that fiber fill stuff you can put in to make up for a small box?

in your post you don’t state:

  1. what KIND of subs?
  2. what does the manufacturer recommend airspace wise?

well i would just say how much trunk space do you really need and how much bass do you want

he has a ranger…so…trunk = no

The subs I have now are crap anyway so I was going to get new ones. I would get a sub that matched the airspace that I had. The only problem now is not many have that low of a rating. In my original post i stated it had .75 cf of airspace but am mistaken as it only has .50 cf of airspace. So, i would get subs to match the airspace of the new box.

I (being his brother) have tried to help him on this, but it’s very hard to find a sub that can work well in only .5 cuft of air space. And he has VERY limited space behind the seat (the box he has now is actually a very creative design). You want my advice? Buy either one 12" sub that works with 1 cuft of air space, or one 10" sub that works with that air space. Remember when I had that one MTX 10 in my car? it sounded good and only had 1cuft of air space (and it was powered by the same amp you have—the one I sold to you!) I have told you before though, i don’t like that the subs touch the seats when they are in operation. I would go with one sub.

:stupid:

JLs will work in that amount of airspace. Take a look at their site. I wouldn’t move it up due to it being in the cab its self. I would leave it in the position its at and put filler (almost looks like pillow stuffing but usually made of fiberglass) in it to “fool” the Subs into thinking there is more airspace.

Give me a min and I have to look at the JL site…

That is a good idea, Sight N Sound. I never thought about JL Audio (of course, I’m not that into car audio either). their stuff sounds good.

2 10 W0 bridged will work fine since the bass is located inside the Cab its self.

I have used, JBL, MTX, RF, Kicker and JL and I don’t care what anyone says, JL has out performed all of them. Thats why I went with a single JL 12 W6v2 when I needed to make room in my current set up for this year.
