Sonny, are you seriously arguing against progressive taxation? Someone in their first shitty min wage job, working full time, makes $1200/month BEFORE taxes. If we implement the often proposed flat tax (the number I frequently hear is 17%) and eliminate government handouts, the person we’re talking about now makes under $1000/month. If we assume no car ownership, no health insurance, no prospect of secondary education, no children, and living in a roach-infested crackhouse, $1000/month will probably cover living expenses.

we really need to raise the minimum wage to a level that means something. Unfettered capitalism, for some reason, doesn’t bring out the best in people.
