1991 Mazda Miata build (yeah, go ahead and laugh)

Welcome! That makes for three red hard-top Miatas on here :ninja

Shhhh :tong

Thinking about doing flares? Harddog cage? 1.8 Swap?

I better see this thing at local Mohud AutoX events, I need somebody to beat on :tong

:lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

but my red miata has a green hardtop :frowning: oh well, at least it’ll be funny in December

haha, i’d so lose at autoX. i’ve got some weird hesitation problems with my engine. powerband is majorly fucked and i dunno what the problem is. nothing i do seems to fix it. and i don’t think it’s the crank (used to be a problem on older miatas, the crank keyway wore out)… who knows, maybe next season i’ll show up. i don’t know what class i’d be in because of my modifications to intake/exhaust and upgraded suspension. probably a class that i’ve got no chance at!

I support this build.

has good potential

Good base to build off , previous teacher had a turbo miata…Was redic fast

That’s rough on the accident man… Good deal on the 16s- but personally I wouldn’t put anything larger than 15s on the car. Guess you are thinking the same thing with weight, etc. It’s good you took the chrome strip off the door.

You may want to get adjustable coilovers to get it sitting properly. Also, NB top mounts drop the car a bit more at the front while retaining suspension travel. Or you can get some from FCM (Fat Cat Motorsports) mounts but they’ll cost a bit more.

I would recommend the TEIN basics, you can sometimes find them on CR.net or miata.net used for $500-$600. Not bad for a height adjustable c/o setup.

Did you really feel much different putting the intake/headers/exhaust on?

Haven’t noticed your car around… But I’ll keep an eye out. Peace.

If you still have cats you’d be in STX or STU with me ;D

And I have a freaking Nissan Altima and I still auto x the piss out of it :lol NO EXCUSES FOR YOU :tong

Wait… you auto x?

Have you poked around on that miataforums about your hesitation problem? there’s a ton of stuff it could be and there’s an assload of information on there

those tokicos blow out yet? the h.p.'s are notorious for that… only tokico’s to buy are the illuminas. you def need to go deep and wide on the wheels. if you are looking for some cheap wheels that look decent, check out the sportmax line, or rota’s, etc…

nice car dude, i dont really mind the body kit, the lights dont look that great but w/e

nice wheels !

yeah, i want the Works 15’s in a zero offset. screw sportmax! everybody has 'em. i’ll have to look into the NB tophats. might solve my problem.

not yet! when they do i’m going to swap in illumas.

i’ve poked… but only that. it’s so hard to work on things at school. i swapped fuel pump and filter (actually, i swapped the tank as well), plugs and wires (helped a bit), ran some injector cleaner through for the heck of it. i’m thinking about trying a seafoam treatment but i dunno. there’s a lot of controversy over that fix. i checked the crank and i’ve got a long nose crank and it doesn’t seem to wobble of be out-of-round while running, so i think the keyway should be fine. i wonder if it could be a clogged cat? i got a free gutted cat from m.net and i want to swap that in to see if it makes any difference. if it does, i’m going to buy a high flow cat to replace it. the other thing is, the hesitation goes away a bit once the engine warms up for a while. like, after 10 minutes or more of driving, it no longer hesitates. i don’t really understand it.

also, major problem right now is that if the car sits for a week or so, it run really rough when i start it, for maybe 5 minutes. and once it even died on me right after start up when i touched the gas to see if it’d rev! friggin 17 year old cars.

think I may know what your problem is, could it be the green thermosensor on the back of the motor below the coil packs?

also coil packs, my packs went bad on my new car

I’ve got some symptoms that may be because of my thermosensor going bad too
