my boyfriend has a 92 corolla and the past few days it has been creaking whenever he turns or accelerates, then yesterday he was in reverse and something broke. now it starts and goes into gear and when you accelerate the speedometer moves but the tires won’t move. it just creaks and crunches. any ideas?
axles? or something between tranny and wheels
get a new boyfriend?
Sorry for the lack of help.
Broken axle.
if it was a broken axle wouldn’t the wheels be crooked at all?

no. the axle just turns the wheel. the knuckle, strut and control arm support it.
I had the same thing happen to the Daytona last summer, turns out while I didn’t brealk the axle, I stripped the splines on the intermediate shaft. I’m assuming the Corrolla uses unequal length shafts though, so probably a broken axle.
Most likely what was said already a broken axle. Won’t recommend trying to start the car or moving it until it’s checked out, pretty easy to check though. Jack the front end up, and take a peek the issue will probably be in plain sight if that’s the case.
thanks guys.
