1996 Ford Taurus Brake Noise

Issue-Clunk noise coming from driverside rear brake shoe area. When pressure is applied to the pedal, the is a clunk noise that will happen regardless of how soft or hard pressure is applied to the brakes. The harder the braking is, the louder the noise it. With the parking brake on and driving there is no noise, but when pressure is applied to the pedal, the same noise happens.

I’ve replaced the shoes and installed new drums with the same symptoms. Could it be possible the new drums may need turned again because they are not true?

The noise is staying constant, and is making me worried. I’ll buy anyone a case of beer who can point me in the right direction to the solution.

Rear Hub Assembly Maybe? There isn’t much to rear drums that rotate… So if you replaced everything in the hardware, the next step is to look at what parts are affected by the rear brakes activating…

There is a similar issue with my car and Berettas where the rear brakes clunk and replacing the rear hub assembly usually takes care of it.

is it an oscillating/pulsating noise as you apply the brakes or is it a one time clunk only? i’ve seen napa sell bad drums off the shelves quite a few times but if they’re out of round they’ll cause a pulsation felt mostly in the pedal

its a taurus, light it on fire

Took it around the block to get a better feel, and it does have an oscillating/pulsating noise to it. The drums were from Advance Auto Parts. I can take them to get turned and see if that helps.

Its a 96 taurus sell it…go get another one for 500 bux

Shortly there after realize the second Taurus also has broken springs and brake problems.
