I have a friend that has a 97 Integra and it has been lowered but he’s looking to upgrade. I don’t know shit about Honda/Acura and I figured this is the place to ask.
The car looks to be lowered like ~2" or so, the springs might even be cut, I don’t know. He doesn’t know much about what he can get for his car and really just wants to have a stiffer ride with about the same drop. He’s not a ricer or anything :lol he just liked how my car rides and wants to change his up. I was thinking if someone is selling a used setup in good shape that it would be best for him. I don’t think he would want the slip-on style coilovers. Either a nice spring/shock combo(new) or coilovers. This car isn’t tracked or anything of the sort.
There’s nothing not to like, they are made specifically for whatever shock you have. I havent had a single issue or complaint in the 2 sets I’ve owned.
I donno, for the price, better can be had. The combination just seems to ride like poop. No doubt, im aware Omni’s will ride like shit as well. I’ve heard horror stories. Im not looking for it to ride like a Buick. If i was interested in that i wouldnt own a Honda. My car will not be a daily driver.
What can be had for $900 new or less that is better? K-sport/D2/FuntionForm/etc. are all junk. You can find a used set for very cheap, shocks are rebuildable, dampening is adjustable, and so on. If you just want to lower your car on some shit coilovers get some lowering springs or cut the stock ones. If you want a decent ride get a decent suspension. Koni/GC is probably the most popular and most appraised set-up in the Honda community.
Lance doesn’t go on HT. And in his defense, he said that same exact thing to me at work one day when we were talking about coilovers. He knows his shit more than you may think.
There’s a million and one reasons to not like (insert brand here) shocks/struts. It all depends on what you’re going for. Reliability, dampening, smooth ride, or whatever. If you looking for a decent drop, slightly stiffer ride- get whatever nonadjustable (for daily driving you don’t need them to be adjustable anyway) shocks and some set of slightly stiffer progressive rate springs. The real key is finding some shock that’s got valving matched as closely as possible to your springs. For hondas, kyb gr-2’s are fairly common and cheap, and you can have your pick of whatever springs (remember dampening & spring rate go hand in hand).
The koni/GC setup is a very common setup for hondas/acuras and with fairly good reason- they’re rebuildable/re-valveable, the GC sleeves are a great fit for sleeves on Konis. There’s all kinds of poop sleeves with horrible fitment on whatever brand shocks/struts- make all kinds of noises, slaps around and eventually causes wear/tear and possibly breaks. And as far as springs go, well, you just go with whatever specs on the springs you feel like at that point- you just have a given coil diameter, and you can toy around with different linear- or progressive-rate springs, spring length and of course the all important ride height- you know, dragging on the ground and such…
And if you do drop the car to the point where you’ve got a 1/2 inch of travel (or less), and expect that cheap shocks/struts aren’t going to blow out with whatever spring rates, well, they probably will. The lesser travel will require a stiffer spring to keep from bottoming, and the stiffer spring will require higher dampening rates.
If that’s what you’re going for- just buy two or three of the exact same cheap setup and look forward to swapping out the assembly every year or so, depending on how much you beat on the suspension- which, honestly, if it’s a fairly cheap setup, might not be a bad idea at all.
