it has a loud ticking in it that is intermittant. That wouldnt happen to have anything to do with crankwalk would it? Do injectors tick loud sometimes or a worn belt?
t70 or hybrid are the people to talk to about dsm’s
most dsm’s have lifter tap, but more common one 1st gens. lifters need rebuilt or you can upgrade to ones with bigger oil holes in them, i know the 2nd gen lifters are already an upgrade for 1g’s. definetly run as high of an octane as you can on any turbo’d motor, i used to sunocco 94 but now you can only get 93. look around on the dsm sites and do all the free mods first and maintanence. i forget how many miles it says r on it but make sure the timing belt is good cause they recommend changin them every 60k. ive seen many bent valves do to timing belt failures in these car.
yeah the car is right at 60k about. so the belts will all be changed. i think the dealer might have put the low octane fuel in which might have caused the ticking and CEL.
The lifters cannot be rebuilt, they can be cleaned quite easily, but to save yourself agrivation you should do a timing belt at the same time since to get to the corner 4 lifters you almost have to take the cams out.
i read that the lifter tap can be made quieter by using synthetic oil and lucas oil stabilizer. I’ll try that along with changing the belts.
wow that car is clean.
2.1l destroke FTW! no reason to go any other route.
never ever put lucas in your oil
but has it run a mid 13?
havent been to the track yet but the setup close to mine but running less boost has ran a 13.7. im hoping to hit the track on the 11th if the car is ready by then.
more details as to why?
what are the benefits of the 2.1 stroker? Also, by changing the crank, will that prevent crankwalk from the stock crank?
lucas has its place IMO.
i thought the 2.1 was discussed already here? You are de-stroking a 2.4l. there is no crank walk issues with any of these motors.
Stay 2.0, there is no reason to get that involved in something.
thats what confuses me… it has a 2.0 so to me it seems like making it a 2.1 would be stroking it. if it already had a 2.4 then a 2.1 would be destroking it.
so lucas or no for the lifter tap?
lucas no for anything look up the lucasoil test and how bad it foams.
would any additive be reccamended to quiet the lifter tap? on the dsm forums they said lucas.
lucas sucks is causes air to get into the oil boom
Take them out and clean them
