You ever drive a car in bad winter weather that was equipped with Nokian tires? If not…please do. If you have, you should know better. They are the best winter tires out there.
And what makes it NOT a performance mod? Is handling not performance?
Thank you. An older woman in Syracuse, NY used to drive car primarily on errands (she didn’t work, so stayed home a lot). I got it in November of 2006 with 26,004 miles. It sat for a year and a half (I guesstimate it starting sitting at around April or May of 2005) because the woman had gotten sick from asbestos cancer and spent like 8 months in the hospital, and then ended up dying and the car sat for another 8 months or so.
As for the CA –> NY thing. Most 99’s are Cali-Spec. Nissan started to do this because they didn’t want to have two ‘platforms’ I suppose. The car was shipped to NY and has spent it’s entire life in NY (evidenced by the rusted strut bolts I had to battle last week to do the suspension lol).
The AVIC-Z stereo is awesome. I love it. I only have ONE issue with it. F’in Gracenote SUCKS (technology used to assign artists/track info to a particular track). I’m Ukrainian, so I have a lot of Russian/Ukrainian music. I had to classify it as “Fusion” because there was no other genre. You get 13 Genre’s and can’t add your own. As neat and organized as I am, this pisses me off. Other than that, it’s an AWESOME head unit.
If I were you…I’d buy an AVIC-Z2 or possibly even AVIC-Z1 and buy a ‘re-imaged’ hard drive from garrettoomey on AVIC411.com that will make it an AVIC-Z3 (latest maps, gracenote - blah!). That’s what I did. I got a used AVIC-Z2 for $700 and had it re-imaged to a Z3.
lmao. No. But I do live in the boonies so our roads get plowed last. I have to deal with an abnormal amount of snow on the road until I get to the main roads. Not to mention, my actual driveway is an uphill climb…I’ve tried and tested other winter tires and Nokian were by far the best ones (even on snow that was ‘glazed’ over from repeatedly being driven over.
This thing sounds great with even a small system. I have 4 6.75" Infinity Speakers and a 10" Infinity Basslink (which is currently out of commission, I think my RCA inputs on the built-in amp are dead so The Stereo Workshop in Clifton Park is trying to fix it for me) and it sound(ed) great. I’m hoping they can fix my sub and get it working for me.
What is the difference between the Avic Dx and Zx? I thought they were the same at first but I guess they’re not… I don’t plan on using this for nav, only for the big-screen look, DVD capabilities and possible iPod integration later on, so would finding a D1/Z1 be best for me, do you think?
I plan on hooking this up to a Rockford Fosgate 630.2 2-channel amp to power a JL Audio 8w7 in a very nice vented box, then getting Infinitiy Kappa Perfect 6.1 components for the front doors and some yet-to-be-determined A-Pillar tweeters and run those through an Infinitiy REF7501A 4 channel, then leave the rear doors and rear deck stock and through the stock amp. I’ve got the stock Bose so I’m just looking for a little more clarity in the highs and lows, I’m pretty satisfied with the midrange but I can get a good deal on the Kappa Perfect’s so I figured I might as well go with them.
do you seek performance in the winter? NO! Are you trying to knock of a couple tenths off on how long it takes you to get to the first stop sign at the end of the street with an inch of snow on the ground? NO. Winter tires are a safety item… NOT performance upgrade
Well…the Dx has navigation also but the biggest difference between the Dx and the Zx is the Zx has a built in hard drive that it rips your audio CD’s onto. You can’t rip MP3 CD’s or DVD’s (I ended up burning 50 CD’s to migrate all of my music over to the hard drive), but you can listen to them. Another difference is 3D landmarks in the navigation. If you go to NYC, you’ll see pictures of the Empire State Building, etc. There are many small differences…where the Dx wins over the Zx and vice versus.
If I were you and getting the D-series…I’d get a D3 or a F700-BT (F-series has replaced the D-series in June 08). The F-Series is nice, has MSN Direct (gas prices, movies times, etc. right on the screen) but it’s new so it has some bugs.
As for the sound system, I have some Infinity tweeters…brand new never unpacked…that I could sell you for $40. I decided to keep my OEM because the speakers I put in my car had brilliant highs and I needed more low’s than highs.
I disagree. To me, performance = doing anything to car that helps it or improves it. It can mean upgrading handling (winter tires) or upgrading power (installing a turbo).
