2 Questions: Tires and Steering Wheel Hub

I have a 1992 S13.

First, about the tires. I’m due for a new set of tires now since my tires are pretty worn. I’ve only looked at the back ones and even though I have 2-2.5 degrees of negative camber in the back, they have worn pretty evenly. They are slightly more worn on the inside, but not by much. Anyways, I’ve been saving up for new tires and I was going to go by the end of the summer since they are at the wear bars. (I drive my car only like 3 times a week.)

Now to get to my question, yesterday, I was driving around in traffic downtown, so pretty low speeds, a lot of tight turns, etc and there were some really weird noises coming from the front, popping, rubbing, scrapping. So when I got to my girlfriend’s place, I took a look at the front, but I couldn’t see or hear anything wrong, except for 1 thing, my driver’s side front tire has really bad camber wear. The passenger’s side one is evenly worn, but the driver’s side one looks like this on the inside:

What I don’t understand is that my camber in the front is less aggressive then the back: 1-1.5 degrees and my passenger side front tire has less camber wear then the back tires…

So did my alignment just get out of wack because of a big pothole or is there a bigger problem? I got my last alignment about a year ago.

3 years ago, I replaced both front control arms with units that had new balljoints and poly bushings and all my tie roads. 2 years ago I installed bings pillow ball TC rods and Stance coilovers.

I only drive my car April-October.

Question #2!!

I have SuperHICAS on my car and I wanted to install an aftermarket steering wheel. I bought a used wheel and hub a long time ago and finally got around to installing it, but the hub didn’t fit since it was for a non-HICAS model. So I ordered a HICAS hub from FRSport.

I got it last week and tried to install it, but it doesn’t fit.

Behind the steering wheel, there is a spinning sensor thing for the HICAS:

This piece has 2 black tabs sticking out, 1 at the top which is a plug and 1 at the bottom which is just plastic. The stock steering wheel has 2 holes for these 2 tabs so they fit snug and they turn with the wheel. The hub has different holes for the tabs, but none of them are snug, so the sensor doesn’t turn with the hub and none of them let me put the steering wheel on straight (bolt don’t line up, so the wheel is at an angle.)

Also, the plug for the horn that comes with the hub doesn’t fit anywhere.

Anyone else have experience with this hub?

Anyone know how to make a non-HICAS hub work on a HICAS car???

i’m looking for the same answer myself. i was told that if your hicas is disabled you can use the non-hicas hub. but how? seeing those 2 tabs i don’t see how it’ll fit.

Is your HICAS still working, or did you bar it already?

uhm you’re obviously rubbing somewhere… its obvious by the scrub mark… whenever you do coilover installs, aftermarket wheel/tire installs, alignment adjustments, etc… you should want to inspect the car lock to lock… left to right. In fact have someone in the car turn left/right the steering wheel while you observe the fenders/tire/etc… Maybe something even came lose in the front hence rubbing.

For the hicas, i can’t help much I removed it.

FYI your tires seem to have plenty life left but i could be wrong, it could be different in real life. I would however take care of the rubbing issue asap… cause you may damage your tire (may not be obvious but i could be damaged from within from overlong driving).
