2000 Maxima Subwoofer Issue

So this a bit of me not being able to figure out sound systems and a little bit of not wanting to spend 700 on factory subwoofer.

My dad has 2000 Maxima SE that came with the Bose sound system. However a couple months back the subwoofer let go and we went looking for a new one. Nissan says they can get him the whole assembly for a cool 700 bucks. We kinda laughed at it thinking the parts guy was joking. He wasn’t, they wanted 700 for a paper 8" subwoofer. Now we aren’t the most Sound system educated people on the planet but when my Altima’s entire sound system only put us back 400 bucks and that was only 4 speakers and a deck. (not the best system in the world but 100x better than the tape deck it had)

So now my question, does anyone make a 8" subwoofer assembly anymore? I searched and couldn’t find a single thing. Alternatively could we use a single 8" speaker and use the amp that was attached to the orginal system to make a “rigged” speaker system (the amp and actual subwoofer are seperated as of now.)? Or am I’m missing the point of subwoofer?

Thanks in advance, Chris

For sure you can use an aftermarket subwoofer with the amp. 700$ that’s hilarious. If you’re carpentry savvy enough you wouldn’t even have to worry about fitting the new sub into the same enclosure. Using http://www.bcae1.com/ and going through the side scroll bar to #110 makes it alot easier figuring out enclosure size… Anyways alil off your question.

Basically you just have to match up the subwoofer to your amp wattage. 8" subs are pretty common.

Sorry forgot one factor, its slim setup (not deep as it will go into the body metal and cant be tall as it will bugle and block some of the rearview mirror’s view.

Is this slim enough?

Find a Spec V 8" sub… lol

Awesome, thats perfect thanks a lot. It should fit just right. I can’t believe I couldn’t find that when I searched.

I never even thought about the Spec V one. That’s an 8" Rockford Fosgate. The JL one will be better though.

ii could snap a picture of my stock junky 8" subwoofer so you know what they look like and if they look similar. IMO i wouldnt even replace it. i took mine out and hardly noticed any difference. now my 10" JBL sub, thats a totally different story. just spend 400$ and get him a 10" sub and amp and he will have way more bass then he will need.

… considering its been out for almost 4 months, and he doesn’t use the bass. It more a fact that something is missing thats bothering him. You still got your old sub sitting around?

yah, its sitting in my garage. Im not going to sell it because i kept all my stock stuff so when i sell the car its bone stock again.

curses…

ill see if i can find you one for cheap on a specv forum.

guy on another forum said he will sell me one for 70$ shipped. you want me to get it for you and you just give me the money? i might even be able to just have it shipped to you…

for 70? yeah grab it I’ll pay you back.

k, just so you know there might be some customs fees.

PM me your address and ill see if i can have him ship it to you. or i can just tell you his paypal when i get it, and you can deal with him if you want.

I tossed mine out, I didnt think there would be a use for it!
