2000 Mustang AIX build-Watkins Glen track day 4/18-4/19-with vids

Awesome! Looks like it should be alot of fun getting into a build like this and racing it…

Does this have something to do with the narrower RPF’s I ended up with?

good stuff. should scoot pretty good on the dirt track  :stuck_out_tongue:

any date you have set for a goal to finish or its done when its done? would like to see how it runs

so awesome

This is going to be a sweet rally car!

wow

no, ive just been randomly going trough boxes of stuff that i bought and never used or wouldnt need. i bought those in a set with 18x9.5’s and 18x8.5’s. i just didnt need the 8.5’s and the offset didnt work for me either

shooting for march 2014 hopefully

I’m going to miss seeing the Roush at the track. I’m sure this will be much more fun though.

started gutting the driver door today. probably took 1/2 the weight off from what it started at even without the glass. going to weigh before/after today when i go over there.

drilled out the spot welds for the crash bar in the door since ill have door bars on the cage

bought one of these for $15 bucks. the blade was toast after doing the whole door but it worked flawlessly. easy to get a nice straight cut too!

and ended up with this. i think it came out pretty good. have to trim some of the other bracket material that was underneath the door skin but other than that its good to go.

and a couple pics of the motor on the hoist

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG4396_zpsc198fab2.jpg

came across some better deals lol

tilton pedal setup. much more baller than the wilwood lol
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMG954170_zpse1a42a35.jpg

Used Jerico RCR tranny with REM polished gears. pretty much decked out.
ratios are 2.94/1.91/1.33/1.00

so ill probably sell the wilwood pedals and the other tranny. should be able to make a few bucks on the tranny with the deal i got on it

mocked up the plan for the motor mounts yesterday

http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG2699_zpsa0aadf0c.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG2697_zpsfb39a261.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG2710_zps1b9b8610.jpg

i found 2 sets of headers.
hooker 2207
hooker 2116
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/hookerheaders_zps453f8669.jpg
im only concerned about the motor mount clearance on the driver side

the 2116’s look like they will be more likely to clear, but im trying to get away with only modifying one or two tubes.

depending on the price, I may have interest in the wilwood pedals

190 and they are yours

wanted to smooth out the engine bay a little and get rid of the 1462347234 holes that were in there. so i bought some POR-15 Epoxy (this stuff http://www.por15.com/EPOXY-PUTTY_p_54.html)
prepped the holes with a little sanding and applied the epoxy
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG2723_zps45356643.jpg
then i ground it smooth a day later with a flap disc. way to heard to sand by hand. came out pretty good. wont really need much of a finishing smooth at all.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG2725_zps0dac2bf9.jpg

and i got my headers in yesterday, they are almost identically designed which made guessing for clearances on one side of the other easier.
ceramic coated hooker headers 1-3/4" primary/ 3" collector
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG2748_zps555c5287.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG2747_zps4ded34f6.jpg

then i did a quick mock up to see what i was working with.
the drivers side JUST catches the motor mount which might not be an issue depending on where the mount might sit front to back once i make the adapter plates. if it still hits, it can always be cut and notched/ rewelded to clear.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG2732_zpsdc9805f7.jpg
passenger side has this stupid swoop in the 4th runner to keep it equal length which hits the oil pan lol. but there is nothing to interfere with on that side so that runner can be modified in numerous different configurations to keep the length the same and make it fit.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG2729_zpse794ea38.jpg

and i called about getting the cage done which will hopefully start next week, then i can really get moving on the car making stuff more permanent rather than just doing a mock up.

so i had to make the car rollable again. which included:
putting the old setup from the roush with the stock k member together so it had a front suspension again. which will go back in the roush once i get the car back after the cage is in. sicne the stock k member gives me no header clearance whatsoever.
so i spent an hour or two putting all that back together from boxes of parts and bolts.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG2736_zps6b3b9695.jpg
all set to get put back in
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG2746_zpsdb72359b.jpg
then the dash and steering column had to go back in since the steering setup will eventually be mounted off the dash bar.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG2740_zpse691c9e3.jpg

and i had to mock up where i wanted to seat roughly. at least the height of it so i could see enough. so the harness bar could be put in at the proper height for the belts.

Looks good, glad I stopped by last week. Can’t wait to see this thing do heaters.

Should have called…I would have helped!

not much of an update,

but dropped the car off last saturday to get the cage done. hopefully have that back sometime in august
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y133/naaby2687/Black%20Mustang/IMAG4524_zps684c18e9.jpg

and got a spare k member from a guy just so i can leave the one in the roush for now.
mocked up the driver side header with the mounts where i think ill have the, and with the k member bolted on to those.
everything clears!!!

and i figured why not toss the power steering rack on to see where the steering shaft will hit so i know what needed to be modified on the primaries.

and it goes right past and doesn’t touch anything! pumped that the driver side header needs no modifications. and the pass side clears the mount and k member but hits the oil pan on the one runner so that will just have to be modified a bit
