so … i think i’m picking one of these up on saturday … anything i should really look for on it?
Whats the price youre buying it for?
price doesnt matter … its locked up, and needs some bars/etc. i’m going to rebuild the motor and ride it for a few and sell it probably or just rebuild and sell it. i’ve never been much of a bike guy but i always ride them when they are around, just never owned one before. just wondering what the problem points are on them, things to look for/fix once i get it.
no major problems, really. jetting is finicky on those bikes. from 94 to 04 the motor is very similar. and 97-04 all run close to the same. for some reason the 01 had the least broad powerband of those years but the most up top. its a good motor for sure and a quality bike. i know those YZs very well cause thats mostly all i rode back then.
Sweet, I know who I’ll be getting ahold of if i run into problems. I found a few people on thumpertalk that have put 02 fenders/tanks on and I think I might go that route because I want to get this plastic/graphics kit for it. Unless I can find something like this I can get for the '01
dunno about the 02+ body work. the front fender and # plate will work, they are the same from 00-04. i’d be interested to see that they did to fit the airbox/side plates on, because the frame is different from 01 to 02. and w/o the airbox/sideplates, i dont think the seat would line up. same goes for the tank/shroud. that’d be sweet if ppl are doin it tho.
A few people have done it on those forums I guess they just have to make a little bracket for the tank and the rest pretty much just bolts on. I just found this kit so i’m going to hook it up with this one, I thought they didn’t make it for the older bikes but I guess they do.
thats sick. id just get that, if you can. not worth the money to convert the 02 plastic unless you can get all of that cheap. when you figure in the seat and airbox, thats a decent amount of cash. heres a couple pics of my YZs from that era.
well, i got the bike on saturday and made a list of parts i have to get for it. i put bars on it, it needs levers and a throttle tube. i pulled the motor out and got it spinning freely, broken skirts. i had to use a 5 pound sledge to get the pivot bolt out, talk about frozen in there!! i’ll throw up some pics later of it torn apart but its a pretty good bike
good luck with the bike, by bro and I love our 00 125’s
