so you whored yourself out and were able to make next months payment? :crackup jk, good to see your keeping it. I dont know much about subarus but i know if you put 9k into a DSM your well over that and running high 10s if not better… Like i said i know nothing about subarus, good to see your keeping it tho

428 to the wheels on 93 octane and low boost…sold for $22k!!!

sounds like an awesome car, but I had to quote this nonsense… HAHAHA

Touche!

im not trying to be a dcik but the cobb stg 2 shortblock goes for 2400$… ive damn near quadrupled that

does that mean you had to reinforce your front seat brackets or else they would fly out from the nasty pull?

is that good, or…? whats this 9,000$ engine have, i mean my rods, pistons, rings, bearings, and all the seals, and timing gear for it was only 1700 or so.

purchasing a brand new oem subaru shortblock $2200…, having block disassembled, slight bore cleanup for 100mm cp pistons, purchasing $575 cp pistons, 1k$ carillo rods, $500 for bearings, motor assembly was around 5800 then add $550 for gaskets, fluids, oil pump and the labor to R & R the engine (yes dodgeworld charged me) $800… 9k was a little over the top… closer to 7400 after all shipping and taxes were paid… if you add in the header which was purchased as part of repairs after we found the oem uppipe cracked in half, add another $600 so we’d be at or around 8k$…dont forget the $710 i paid to have this motor run properly… 8700 or so… damn near 9k…

copied and pasted from build thread.

jesus christ. mine was a bargain, 12k miles on it, no issues… Scats and JE’s and oem bearings, head bolts, you got RAPED on labor though, parts are one thing, buy CP and carillo and you spend some coin… but the labor costs… :headbang

my question is, why buy a complete short block and remove all the parts rather than a bareblock, i obviously dont know the details of what happened to the old engine, castastrophic failure im guessing

spun rod bearing, spun main bearings, shifted thrust bearing which sent a rod “machining” the case on its own, cracked ring land on #4 piston which ended up scoring the cyl wall… when i break something, i break it good

fixed :rofl

fail

Says you, and sorry for getting OT/Ot style post, I thought i was in the argument thread in battlefield, my bad.

so what was the cause of the initial bearing failure?

improper tune by getadomtune… the guy that BUILT byrons sti motor… he scaled in the injectors wrong and it was dumping fuel… cylinder wash.

Wasn’t the oil pickup tube clogged full of silicone? Cylinder wash damages cylinders not bearings. That phrase seems to be thrown around a lot by people who don’t fully understand. If it was to the point of cylinder wash the car would be not really be drivable.

yes, i know… but when you have enough gas entering the cylinder to contaminate the oil it can damage the bearings. the oil pickup tube clogged causing the oem turbo to fail from oil starvation, adam hennessey fixed the oiling issue, but the tune that was on the car was what caused the catastrophic failure

I heard of an almost new GM truck get hydrolocked and bend a rod from a stuck injector…lol. They have the bent rod still as a conversation piece.

I’ve never had an EFI car run rich enough to cause bearing failure. I can and have seen it with carbed cars though. But if the car is THAT rich is run like total crap…

let me try and put this in perspective for you… running on the same tune before moon performance tuned me… the car went from clifton park to moons shop… 117 miles… it used over 12 gallons of fuel. little rich much?.. and this was at cruise… NOT getting into it at all… now… assume u believe the tune is spot on and are boosting it. dumping PISSLOADS of fuel… yah… little rich
