My bad…i thought for some reason the cobalt only put out 7 psi
I agree power is power…in terms of factory cars…it’s about performance per dollar…Right now, the SRT and the SS are the leaders in this category…230 hp SRT @ 21K vs a 210 hp RSX @ 25K hmmmmmm Both cars make good power especially the RSX making more than 100 hp per liter, but it falls short on torque…The SRT is almost at 100 hp per liter (with the aid of the turbo ofcourse)…it’s long stroke (high tq) makes it a more well rounded engine in my opinion than the K20
some of u have mentioned price when it comes to developing the supercharged ectotec…Once again i have to revert back to the srt (as it is the only example i can reference) Dodge threw cost out the window with developing the enginefor the srt…the idea was to build a strong motor…period…There’s an in depth article about it in one of the Sport Compact Car issues…Dodge didn’t pull any punches when developing the 2.4L Turbo for the SRT-4 and they were still able to sell the car for under 20K…granted the SRT isn’t perfect…some may question the interior (who cares) and the suspension isn’t the best…but for a car that was built to go fast in a str8 line, who cares?..The SRT proves that reliable power doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag…if Dodge can offer ther SRT, other companies, including GM, can offer something similar…Anyone have any preliminary production numbers for the SS?..The SRT is a limited production vehicle, which would allow for a higher quality engine development.
If there will be tons of SS’s available, that might explain GM’s reasoning for wanting to cut costs.
i’ll give my opinion when i get to test drive 1 and beat the shit out of t when they come out
90 Pontiac Lemans hatch $1000
2.3L Quad 4 W41 190hp $3000 tops
Then the other $5000 in performance parts and you would blow that civic away.
:blue:
the other 5000 would be for lube to shoe horn that motor in there. I used to have a 90 lemans hatch and the engine bay was small and sucked donkey dick. You couldn;t work on shit in there. I think that was the first gerbil powered pontiac.
same here, haven’t seen any SS’s come through yet. A few 4 door colbalts are in though. maybe soon the SS will be in
this thread is getting super gay…name any import or domestic na 4cyl breaking out of the 15’s stock?
and comparing na to fi is apples and oranges…
honda will never put turbo or any type of fi cause they run too high of compression stock…hell ur lucky if u can run more than 5 or 6 psi stock on a honda bottom end…
plus u always have honda’s awesome vtec=virtually torqless economy car =)
pretty sure they would lower the compression to put fi on if they did  na dsms are 9.5:1 are the turbo ones? if honda ran around with “turbo compression” on all their motors they woulndt make much more than 40hp at 7-8:1 compression
This is the 2.0L turbo motor that came in some sunbirds and GAs in a lemans http://www3.telus.net/GsiTurbo/Pics/Engine/eng_01.jpg
So if that can fit in a GA and Lemans, then i see no reason why a w41 wouldnt fit.
Just for the hell of it, heres the outside of the car

after some body mods

read my post again, I never said it couldn;t be done, just that you would need 5 grand in lube to do it
lol, i know what you were getting at, but looking at how that 2.0 sits in the engine bay (doesnt look like it was to much trouble getting it in there) i dont see why the 2.3 would be that much more trouble to swap in.
I skipped pages of this, but:
-
I’m moderately impressed with the Cobalt, but…
-
An RSX makes more horsepower than the SS with the same displacement and no supercharger for similar money.
since when do hondas have frames?
rsx may have the same h.p rating, but it will get it’s ass handed in torque…hmmm…example 1g eclipse vs newer prelude with 200 hp…wow same hp numbers…shold be a close race eh? don’t think so…hp numbers alone don’t mean shit…gotta have torque to go along with that hp…
ask honda…they have been torqueless since the beginning of time…
gsr 175hp
100 ft-lbs of torque…blah!!
Using C&D as a reference they got 14.7 or something close to that as opposed to the RSX-S 15.4. I’m sure private drivers got better times out of the Acura than that, but no private drivers have tested the SS yet either. Also the Type-S is about 2k more roughly on base price. THis puts the SS inbetween the SRT-4 and the RSX-S, and I think its a good middle compromise of the two. Acura is better built and I assume better handling as opposed to the SRT-4’s great Acceleration for speed.
wow a chevy guy saying that I give you props… :bigthumb:
ok smartass…
SORRY, BOLT TO THE UNIBODY
Ya but what is the compression on the RSX… 13 to 1… Cobalt is like 9.5 to 1 :burnout:
