I think the people that fall for scams like that are bigger assholes than the scammer. I mean, it’s not some half senial old person trying to buy an Elise, because I’d feel bad for an old person getting scammed. I’d almost be willing to give kudos to the scammer for separating an idiot from his money.

I will say, once in a while a deal that is too good to be true is true.
I know of someone that got a very rare and expensive car for very cheap. It was from overseas also. The owner just wanted it to go to an enthusiast that would appreciate the car. Sick deal that I would have paid at least 3x more than he sold it for if I was able to get it.
when I posted my car for sale on some sites, i was getting scam offers. Everyone was in Nigeria or Europe and the had U.S creditors who would mail me a check.
No way I was going to believe that, besides would you want to see and drive the car in person first?

I got one of those when I sold my Fiero. I emailed the guy back playing along, asked him to send the check, but he never responded.
I played with one guy, who actually sent me the check. The scam runs into the bank itself. They set up a fake bank, so the check clears, but that fake bank never sends the money to your account. You bank usually takes up to a month or so to figure this out, then they pull that money back out of your account…its something like that…

My dad was selling a snowblower attachment for an old tractor he had. Anyways, he gets an email from a scammer in Nigeria, you know, cause Africa gets SOO much snow, LOL. Anyways. my dad is stringing this guy along, writing emails in this red neck english, which I told was a waste of time as the humor was probabally lost on him. I’m not lying, he strung him along for months, finally the guy stopped emailing my dad. My dad kept emailing him even after the scammer stopped.
