Heading an impressive array of new offerings from Toyota at the Frankfurt motor show on September 15-25 will be the all-new RAV4, shown here in these first official pictures.

The new RAV4 is a size up on the current car, making space for Toyota’s retro-styled FJ Cruiser that could slot in below it. The third generation of Europe’s best-selling 4x4 arrives in the spring and is expected to have the option of a V6 petrol engine for the first time alongside four-cylinder petrols and turbodiesels.

The current RAV4 is pretty much no competition for the CR-V at all. Toyota’s highest-volume SUV is the Highlander, and Honda sells more CR-Vs than Toyota sells Highlanders. About 3 times as many CR-Vs as Toyota sells RAV4s. Obviously these are just a coupla preview shots, but this initial glimpse at least looks promising.

Looks like a cross between an X3 and a Tocoma.

still don’t like toyota’s steering wheel…hm…

Eh, doesn’t look much changed from the current one. Couple minor styling cues, mostly the rear, and some small changed in the interior, such as the gauges.

My fiance has an '03. Its not that bad, but doesn’t blow me away either. The fact that my 420whp T/A gets better gas mileage on the highway (26-27ish vs. 24 for the Rav) doesn’t impress me much. And it already has dash and headliner rattles after only 30k miles.
