I know it’s a little early yet but thought I’d start one for those members, and non-members, who don’t get recliner rash during the winter months and go snowmobiling for their speed fix. I’ve been riding for about 10 years now and look forward to getting groups of guys together as it’s a lot more fun with a bunch.
Shredd and Ragan run the Sledfest every year but it seems like they run into weather problems more often than not. Maybe this could be for guys (and hot chicks…don’t want to discriminate) who want to set up for rides and possibly answer questions and such like locations, machines, experiences, etc.
I have ridden in Canada once and a few times in Tugg Hill (Eastern end of Lake Ontario) but mostly local. We try to ride as often as possible but lately it seems some people in our group developed AVS (Achy Vagina Syndrome) or get too tied up to make rides. Let me know what you’re riding and when you want to go out. If you haven’t tried it yet, borrow someone’s sled and give it a shot and I think you’ll love it.
P.S.-Josh won’t be able to participate because the helmet wreaks havoc on your hair.

My ride: 2007 Arctic Cat Firecat F7 Fighter Jet Edition (Best sled I’ve ridden to date)
Who do you guys go to for your repairs? I have a Ski-Doo Grand Touring SE with the 700 triple/triple that’s in great condition but needs a good looking over, hasn’t been used the last two seasons, and I don’t have any experience with DIY on small engines, but don’t want to get raped.
I can be the CNY/Syracuse/Tug Hill advocate. I’m currently sledless, but I’ve been riding for about 18 years and have ridden many many sleds of all brands. Since I’ve been up at school in Buff the last 5 years, owning a sled would have been a waste due to the one month tops of riding time I would have while home in Syracuse (and that’s assuming good snow conditions). I definitely have the itch to get another sled though, and if not this winter definitely the next.
I’ll say this in advance, everyone stay safe out there!!! Ride hard but use your heads. I can count a few times where I could have easily been killed when I was younger if scenarios had gone a little differently. My biggest advice to guys that may be new to the sport: get very familiar with the trails you are riding before you take them with speed. Every close call I’ve ever had was from riding too fast without knowing the specific characteristics of the trail (sharp turns, sudden dips/ditches, bridges, etc.). Wrecking a sled is a very sobering experience, trust me. Keep the rubber side down and lets have a good season. We don’t need to read the “Snowmobiler Killed” news stories all winter.
I’ve always liked Terry and his wife at Pioneer Motorsports. Bought my first sled there. Do most of our own. Not really that hard. Read up a little and do yourself. Not a great deal of complication to these. Just keep up on your greasing and checking of bolts and such.
im currently looking for a cheap sled to get into riding… anyone have any suggestions. A guy at work said to look at ski doo mxz because they are cheap to repair.
I can’t wait for sled season to get here. Usually on the weekends I’ll ride around chataqua county, I love the trails down there. During the week I drop at Chestnut Ridge and ride out from there.
I ride an 03 Rev 800, I am looking to get rid of it and pick up a new 600 Etec for this season.
I ride out of holland, mostly get out on the weekends. I wont be able ride like the new sleds in the rough stuff since my sled is old haha but I can still pull hard in the fields and smooth trails.
I’m pumped for this year as I finally bought one (I don’t have to get stuck riding friends extra sleds anymore). 2010 Polaris Rush 600 with 1300 miles.
This will be my first season riding since I was about 14. Picked up a 2000 Arctic Cat ZR600 at the end of last season after a buddy with a sled convinced me I needed a winter hobby. We made one trip to Tug Hill before all the trails closed and it was a blast. We’ll be riding around here when we go after work, probably leaving dropping off in Clarance and doing some weekend trips to Tug Hill and Allegany.
I’ve got a 2 place Triton trailer but most of the time my friend’s sled will be on there with mine.
I’ve been riding for 12-13 years or so, i dont own my own sled, but a friend has 3 that i ride. we usually ride around grand island due to him being 4 houses from the trail.
every so often we ride chestnut ridge also, but mostly GI
buddys sleds are all ski-doo, all pretty modded as well
I really want to get into this now that I’m moving back to the buffalo area. i’ve never had a sled, only dirtbikes which I rode in the winter sometimes, but I’m sure this is a completely different experience.
i am def up for getting together for some rides. im in pendleton but usually head towards clarence/akron/indian falls. wouldnt mind heading down to the southern tier either.
i’ll be riding this pig again this year, but expect it to have some custom airbrush paintwork on the hood soon and a new track. will probably hop on a procross800 cat a bit this year as well, need to get some seat time in on it so we can start playing with it…possibly racing one next year instead of the firekitty.
joe, take that sled up to hebelers. they do a good job.
If I ever decide on a new sled, this may be the one. How’s your experience been with it? Does it ride as nice as people would lead you to believe? I’ve riden Rev’s and my buddy’s Polaris IQ but I don’t like the “tippy” feeling those setups give me. I’m kinda old school.

Guess it depends on what “cheap” means. I’m starting to see them on the lawns already. Check out the local grass drags coming up. They usually have a “for sale” area. Craig’s list, dealers websites, swap sheets. Don’t look for much more than a 6 or 700 around hear. Don’t need it. Be careful of some of the older platforms, soem can really do a number on you but I’ve noticed that over the last couple years grooming has greatly improved. Join a club and help support the snowmobile lobby for funding.

We ride a lot locally and never been out Clarence, Lancaster, Pendelton (northtowns) to ride. Is it a lot of flat and open riding?
My sled for this year will be a 2006 Arctic Cat 440 sno pro with a full F7 efi conversion. I actually need to get on the ball and start swapping here soon. lol
