i cant believe you people are still trying to defend obama and trash anyone who says hes an idiot. You people are just as bad as the rednecks who kept suporting bush when his approval ratings dropped to 18 percent.
That was after 8 years of completely fucking the country sideways. He’s had a year which was tied up with standoffs with the Senate trying to fix this shit. No one should be annointing or condemning him at this point.
well hes breaking promises left and right and has a worse approval rating than bush did after his first year. In fact, he has the worst approval rating of any president after their first year. He talks of cutting the deficit but it is completly apparent that he wont be able to. If he was to cut the deficit he would have to get rid of the programs he himself is starting, which would mean his presidency will be a complete waste. I say with all confidence that he will never be able to cut the deficit AT ALL, not even if hes in the white house for 8 years.
actually that’s wrong. And the president whose approval Obama’s is tracking the closest is Reagan, who ended up with 400+ electoral votes 3 years later. That will never happen again in today’s partisan world, but it’s too soon for you to make generalizations like that.
POTUS approval rating has to be below 45 before he even has a chance of losing a re-election.
What’s Obama’s rating?
When do we see Republicans start vying for the candidacy? I’m going to be really interested to see if anyone has a shot at unseating him.
im guessing youre saying my statement about his approval rating is wrong. Actually its right, http://www.ihatethemedia.com/unprecedented-obama-has-the-lowest-first-year-approval-rating-ever regan and him are tied at 46% but regans negative ratings were 5% better than obamas (41%). Obama has the worst first year ratings ever. Given the hype leading up to his presidency thats pretty awful.
I saw last week Newt is giving serious consideration to running. I like a lot of what he has to say, minus the “rah rah Jesus” stuff. Admittedly more than a little gun shy of another bible beater after Bush.
My party needs to find better candidates than Huckabee, Romney, Palin and McCain though. And I don’t mean Bobby Jindal either.
The only reason bush’s Numbers were so high his 1st year was bc of 9/11. They fell hard shortly after.
Also, these numbers are shit. It’s a poll of 1025 people.
Newt? As in Gingrich? Hrm…
Gonna have to find someone really good. If nothing else it looks like Obama has a good shot at just riding the natural upswing of the market to reelection.
Good poll numbers does not always = good president. Doing what’s right over what’s popular will get you shit from the other side which brings down numbers, but if it ends up working they come right back up. And even I supported Bush this soon after 9/11. Then he started Iraq, which all of the public was in favor of too, and I was like :picard:
Is there another Newt high enough up in Republican politics to run for president I’m not aware of?
And I’m not sure about the whole, “have to find someone really good” thing. If Obama continues to push change and it’s not the change people wanted and keeps allowing fiascoes like the closed door health reform bribes you may see MA part 2 nationwide.
I used to like Newt as he was one of the most intelligent people in DC but he is no different than the other so called Republicans in DC really. The DC Republicans will bitch about spending when the cameras are on but they have all learned that the more that is spent directly effects their personal worth through backdoor deals, etc. I think they all know the boat is sinking and they are grabbing anything they can, while they can.
It could mean one of those belly-dragging salamandar type newts, but that’s much too high of a life form to be a DC politician. :roflpicard:
I honestly wouldn’t be heartbroken if Obama only gets 4 years. I think a hard jerk back to the left was/is good for this country after 8 years of Bush, but after 4 years of jerking :mamoru: a moderate republican that isn’t quite so into priming the living hell out of the economic pump could be ideal…
:drama2: When do the primaries traditionally start cooking? Sometime this year right?
Most of the moderate Republicans either lost or became independents or Democrats in the last election cycle. And the primaries don’t start til the end of 2011/beginning of 2012, settle down
If he doesn’t get re-elected, it will be cause either the economy still sucks and voters have short memories, or because of the recent supreme court decision the big corporations spend billions getting their guy elected.
Damn. Now what am I going to do for two years?
:run:
^It is however a different World today.
very true, i guess because of what happened in the last presidency, if obama were to follow in bush’s footsteps by going off course and making thins far worse then we are in for a rough 4 to 8 years. I guess im just planning for the worst because of the former presidency.
This year’s midterms will make or break a lot of stuff. Everyone is expecting a landslide for Republicans but that could actually help Obama pollwise. Ever since they got 60, the Dems have taken the brunt of the economy fallout since the Republicans can play the “we can’t do anything” card. That blame would be shared and they won’t be able to merely obstruct. Also, if Harry Reid loses or retires, Chuck Schumer is in line to take over the Senate. He doesn’t play Mr. Nice Guy like Reid, he may get more done with 53-55 than Reid did with 59-60.
