2012 2.0t Gen'Coupe build

Bought the car bone factory in August 2013 when I got home from Korea. While I was stationed over there I had seen a few of these built out as drift machines and fell in love with the car.

nevermind mine or my kids face.

I had the car for 3 weeks then I had it shipped to my new duty station in Washington state.

When I got to Washington I met up with a now good friend who owns a shop called SRI. He has a 2010 genesis with over 700hp and some 480Tq. My first mods were an intercooler, intake from AEM as well as a ECU flash. The re-flash put me at 18psi peak and about 12-13 sustained.

I went to a dyno event at a company called Turbo Technology up here who had a pile of shit dyno and with no load setting I was only able to build 222Hp/224Tq @9psi. I couldn’t build boost at all on the dyno.

I went home from there with my pride bruised a little bit. I really expected A LOT better numbers.

About a week later I decided to step it up with the mods and boost a little bit. I ordered 750cc injectors from Deatsch Werks and a canned tune from a company called Beyond Redline who specialize in Genesis tuning. I also installed a complete turbo back catless exhaust system, boost gauge, oil pressure gauge, and wide band.
I dont have any pics of the exhaust install though =/

After I got the new tune and parts in the Tq and Hp gains were blatantly obvious and destroyed my stock clutch as it was only rated for low Tq numbers. According to BR I should have been upwards of 300Tq now. So I swapped that out with a stage 3 ceramic segmented clutch and single mass fly wheel from Competition Clutch.

During the 500+ mile break in period I picked up some catch cans and installed them.

I also picked up an aftermarket ATP wastegate so that I hold boost all throughout the power band and installed a Hallman manual boost controller.

And now a week from the next dyno event (5-17-14) I got bored so I installed lowering springs, spacers, and new head&tail lights.

neat, where in texas are you?

I bought a house in Deer Park a few weeks ago, I move there in a month.

I like ShiftDead better!

So do I, start a petition to get my name back lol

Looks great. I’m surprised these cars aren’t more popular.

Looks good buddy

They’re really popular with kids who end up wrapping them around tree’s and phone poles trying to be Rhys Millen.

Thank you.

I thought I remembered reading that these didn’t take to modding too well and had issues.

OP, any thoughts on modded reliability and issues with making power?

As for max hp on a stock 2010-2012 motor…well that’s up to you. 300-325 is safe and you wont have any issues with that amount of power. 350-380 will also be okay as long as you have a great tuner, if not then expect disaster. 400+ is when it becomes a little dangerous on stock motor. The connecting rods are a little thin in this car and will most likely crap out first. The 2013+ Gen’s got a re-work on their motor, they have stronger rods. They can hold 350hp with no issues at all. Replace the internals and the sky is the limit. I have not seen a ton of big HP builds on the 13’s yet mainly b/c companies are still in a R&D phase with them.

If you get a 3.8 V6 Gen then you can drop about 5-$6k and be pushing over 500hp.

My car is considered Stage-2. I have all the bolt-on parts, tune and bigger injectors. I have the stock turbo maxed out.

Probably at the end of summer I will be sending in my stock turbo and having it upgraded. Robert Young at Forced Performance has a rebuilt design for it where they replace the compressor wheel with a billet 65mm HTA wheel and it will get me to almost 315+ HP depending on the tune. It may not seem like insane power compared to what some people are running but it moved pretty good.

From dyno day this morning.
