I just want to express my thoughts on this pile of a design. Im sure other cars/trucks have had poor design flaws but the Captiva seems to be on the top of my list currently. The oil filter location is a complete joke. It is located right next to the exhuast and right near the a/c lines. One of the worst positions to get at. Worse then the new FIAT. Come on GM… really, have to remove the entire lower half of the bumper in order to get at the filter. Anyone else come across this ?
Seriously if that’s how you judge a car then you have some issues. Honda filters on the back of the block are real great too on B series…nothing is ever hard, just not convienent sometimes.
Not to be a dick but you can easily change a honda oil filter from the top, really dont even need to jack the car up to change the oil except if you cant get a catch pan under the drain plug
Also i hate the filter placement on my silverado, ive done one oil change and refused to ever do another one.
I WORK ON EVERY MAKE AND MODEL AT WORK NOT A HUGE DEAL , JUST SAYING THAT THIS DAM CAR IS ON THE TOP OF THE LIST FOR MOST B/S OIL FILTER CURRENTLY , THE FIAT IS A CLOSE SECOND, AND TOYOTA’S ARE JUST PLAIN DUMB. NO OTHER COMMENT TO BE MADE. JUST IF YOU HAVE A CAPTIVA OR COME ACROSS ONE ITS NOT GOING TO BE LIKE THE NEW JEEPS WITH THE FILTER RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ENGINE ON TOP (SUPER EASY) . THATS ALL …
Not sure what your complaint is here. I have the 3.6L in my Aura, and by loosening oneclamp on the intake, unplugging one connector, and flipping 2 clips on the air box, I can change the oil filter from the top. This is by far the easiest of any car i have had to do. Much easier than my old GSR.
Umm…that filter location is no different then any of the 60* v6’s (3100, 3400, etc)
Its been a while since I’ve had to craw under a car to change the filter. Bmw puts their filter right on top
Judging a car by filter location doesn’t make much sense. And to complain about gm for this before any of their other design flaws that they’ve had…lol
