My girlfriend has an 06 ss supercharged and i need to change her oil tomorrow. i have looked online and they say the filter is in the front of the motor under a plastic piece, well i have looked and i dont see this plastic piece. any help would be great
it kinda hidden in front its got a plastic cap with a giant hex head…the filter itself is like a mini mini round filter that would sit on top of a carburator…
if it is what i think it is, then its not a screw on type filter. it would be a conical filter, kinda like something you would see on a CAI. it has its own housing on the block, and you have to unscrew the bottom(or top) and replace the filter, then screw the housing back together. thats how my mazda was set up anyways.
i konw what the filter looks like. i have it in my hands. from what i read though you need to remove a plastic cover then remove a nut and the filter is inside the motor. i guess i will need to look at it some more tomorrow and try and find it.
Take the oil cap off, pull the plastic shroud off the top of the motor and you’ll see the plastic hex cap everyone is talking about. Its on the drivers side near the front. Unscrew that bad boy and your little drop in filter will be under it. You’ll need pliers or channel locks to wrench it off. (Unless you have the correct size socket or wrench of course!) Don’t over tighten it or you’ll be visiting Napa for a new one.
everything above is correct. the filter requires a 1 1/4 inch socket. You will need a 6 inch extension at least to get in there. Remove the plastic shroud and it will be to the right of the manifold, and slightly lower. Make sure when installing the new filter that you snap the filter into the bottom of the cap, you DO NOT place the filter in the hole, it snaps onto the cap. Also remember to replace the green gasket if the new filter has one. Also, when tightening the filter cap, just tighten it until it touches and then snug. Be careful not to break the cap because it is just plastic and very easy to crack.
get the correct socket… a normal socket is a pain in the ass cuz you cant unscrew the cartrige all the way. I bought the snap on one for 22 when i was working at firestone and it saved me pleanty of time
look around the supercharger and throttle body itself, its a black cap. i believe they can be a pain in the ass on the s/c engine. I have the correct socket for those filters, it comes in handy
if you still cant get it, bring it in to Paddock Chevrolet and i will be happy to change the oil and filter in the car for you at a ridiculous price
mike do you work there?
yeah i work in QuickLube.
thats cool, im in there a lot (not for oil changes, i do that myself)usually when my blazer needs warrenty work, my family has bought a ton of cars from there.
my gf’s is kinda under the tube for the intake (but it’s not SC’d). It’s on the front drivers side of the motor. GM really needs to make the cap orange or yellow and have it say OIL FILTER or OIL in big letters. Instead it’s just a black large plastic hex. It took me forever to find it.
it’s really easy to find…it’s on the right side of the motorin the space between the intake tube and the head. It makes it easier to remove the one sensor because the wires get in the way…if you need more help just search one of the cobalt forums…www.cobaltss.net
