2013/2014 Snowmobile Season

Put on 127 miles last night, really great riding. Last minute Northern Erie Sno Seekers decided to open so we start in Clarence Center. Rode all the way to Boston and back. NESS and Marilla were out grooming and NESS had recently hit the entire section we took back. In fact, I caught up to the groom as it was turning around at the trailhead in Clarence Center. We didn’t have the GPS that shows our track so I just drew it in yellow on the jimapco map:

Some thing spots in the fields but more of an ice pack that bare. Lots of fun drifting through Colden Lakes and I highly recommend the steak sandwich at Colden Lakeside Restaurant. If you want to ride get out tonight because everything will likely be closing around midnight friday/AM saturday because of the warmup. I doubt the thin base up north will survive the near 50 temps and rain Saturday.

EDIT: Couple scary water holes a few miles after the bike path heading south on NESS. If you know how to “pin it to win it” they’re not a problem but if you’re a timid rider expect to get wet or worse. We made the return trip from gassing up in Boston in 2:05 so we were hauling. Would have been well under 2 hours if I weren’t waiting for my buddy on the Cat at every other intersection. Rider forward FTW… He was whooped by the end of the night while I was just standing up over the rough sections.

Three or four of us heading out from Eden VFW this afternoon. Join us if you like.

I couldn’t tell you exactly, I was following my friend who lives in that area and knows it like the back of his hand. No tricky shortcuts or anything, the trails were all strung together and well marked. Had to cross quite a few roads though.

Welcome to riding WNY. You replace carbides a lot here.

I’m probably going to head out tomorrow night before the thaw. Who’s going to be out in the southtowns?

I’m debating going out again Friday night. Depends on how whooped I am after riding last night and skiing tonight. I have a feeling after 2 nights of action sports I’ll be ready to chill and watch a movie in the recliner.

Yeah I hear ya on that. I have a job early Saturday morning so it won’t be a late night for me. Probably cruise around for a bit, grab some dinner and head home. From the sounds of it, the trails are smoked (more than they already were) down that way and it’s too much for me to travel over to Hamburg and back.

The groomer Went through the trails at 1030 last night. Would be the NESS trails. Then I was driving to the girlfriends and I got stuck behind a groomer driving down the road

Jay where you gassed up in Boston in where my house is, happy to hear you had a good ride, I may take your route to Hunters Creek Park and back Friday night as I have to work tonight. Rob if I decide to head out earlier in the day I will shoot you a text but Jesse works until 1am so I’m thinking it may be a late night if its not too warm by then

Looking at the latest forecast (high of 39 on Friday and rain Friday night) I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of clubs shut it down Friday afternoon. Those thin fields won’t last more than 3 or 4 passes once it’s gets above freezing.

If you want a guaranteed ride better get out there tonight.

With the great season we are having we should just set up 4-wheeler meets.

I approve of this.
Me and FourEyed went out on the last storm with a few friends. It was a good time. I think a ice screw hit him under the eye though lol.

If you guys want to meet up give me a few days notice. I keep mine at my parents out on holland so its hard for me to just grab the trailer and load up at a moments notice.

so how bad are the water holes? same one Kuntryquest was referring to near the 90? debating where to go riding tonight. preferably on NESS trails to avoid trailering for an hour

I was on private land not on a marked trail. The trails I did hit had some holes nothing went over my ski loop though and 98% where avoidable.

John and I crossed them without issue. There were 3 decent sized ones and they were all smooth enough at the edges to just gun it across. If you go slow or try to sneak around the edge and fall in I bet you’d call them real bad.

Lean back and pin it. You dont want that belt wet.

I work 7p-8a so I guess I’m waiting for the next snow fall sigh

You think dropping at chestnut ridge sat would be out of the question…

It’s going to be complete downpours sat and close to 50 degrees
